Do 300tdi motors show signs of a craked head

Hi all
Just wondering if all 300tdi motors show signs of craked head eg water in the oil, (milky) or oil in the water

Depends on how far gone it is. You might just get a pressurised cooling system. I have heard of one just blowing out the side of the head where the gasket was leaking.

If it is bad enough you could get hydraulic lock up from water filling a cylinder but frothy oil from water and oil mixing is also possible. No different to other motors.

but none of those symptoms will say if its either a cracked head or just a blown head gasket... all symptoms are pretty much the same for cracked head and blown head gasket

Ok i do have a pressurized water resisour none of these signs are showing. An other qeustion has any one drilled out round there thermostat to keep water flowing all the time? Will this cause any problems

when u start the engine with the rad cap off does is pump water out the top? thats a good way to tell there is also alot of other ways to tell... what is it doing exactly? just overheating? or is there other issues which make you think its the head/gasket? in regards to thermostat most people remove them but this also causes alot of other side affects and isnt realy fixing the overheating problem its just by passing better off fixing it properly

it is down a little on power and it pushes water to the resivour bottle and wont suck it back it gets hot at time and others run normal, all over the shop actually. Thermostat still in but i drilled holes in it to let water flow all the time. i have replaced water pump thermostat hoses viscous fan etc. I have it booked in at the radiator place for a pressure test and will take it from there

Check head gasket and my money is on the rear (4th) cylinder. It always is, its the Farest from the rad and air . Get the engine presure tested before you do anything more. They will test the pressure in each bore They should be all the same but if one is down then there is your problem. This should take half hour at most and not cost alot but will tell what the problem is before spending a fortune on new rads and stuff.

But what you have said i would put money on head gasket but if you keep driving it and it over heats then you will have a cracked head
