Interesting P38 mod's

Just for interest, check out this one for sale on e-bay it has some interesting mod's... looks pretty cool but its a little too 'mutated' for me!

Crikey! a cousin to mine with a nip-and-tuck around the arches.

Andy's been on at me to do this to mine and run 35"s insead of 33"s, but after seeing this one I'm in even less of a rush. Those flares look way to Patrol/Cruiser-ish. Defender or Disco flares would be more classy on a P38.

Full marks for effort though. I like the chunky mudflaps.

Andy's been on at me to do this to mine and run 35"s insead of 33"s, but after seeing this one I'm in even less of a rush.

His tyres are still only 33's (285/75r16) - or actually slightly smaller than 33's. His are about 4mm smaller (diameter) than your 255/85 r16's Paul, which are more or less spot on for 33' sizing. So even with his trooper 'flares' they're still not even 35's :eek:

You'd throw your gearing out a bit if you went up to 35's, at the moment your 33's should be almost perfect for your 4.1 diffs - as in same gearing ratio as a stock rig. Taller gearing might not be much of a problem to you if you went 35's, but less oomph for hills and overtaking. When I was running 35's on my hilux the biggest problem I had was 1st gear low range was noticeably faster than it was with smaller tyres (31's) - which wasn't a good thing for rock crawling etc.

I am curious about his winch bar and tyre carrier though...

Very amibitious. I reckon his only real value added additions are the winch bar and tyre swing arm. The rest is just valueless fluff.

Agree Junosi, but you gotta give the guy some credit for giving it a fair go. I reckon it would be quite a beast off-road.

$20k asking price on a $5k car...

Plus'es
+$5k for the front and rear bars
+1.5k for the sliders (being very generous)
+$3k for the 33"s and wheels
+$2k for a nice interior
+$1K for a tidy guard chop (assumed)

Minus'es
-$5k for losing the EAS
-$1k for the dodgy light bar on the roof
-$2k for using Patrol/Cruiser flares
-$??k for voiding insurance (unless front bar is SRS compliant. I'm sure he would say in the ad if it was)

Do the maths.... $5k + $12.5 - $8k = $9.5k less the insurance issue.

$10k still sounds a bit much to me for a '95 model. Be interseting to see what it sells for.

Mine didn't cost much more than that calculation and it is a '99 model (but not a HSE). It also has a few things that one doesn't which I think are more useful than flares... working EAS, rear locker, 4.1 diffs ;)

I doubt if I'd get much for mine if I wanted to sell it... not pretty enough... and I hate to think what it is "worth" in terms of new/used parts and my time spent on/in/under it.

I know when I drowned my last P38, I did a calculation on what it "owed me" after nearly 5 years and figured I could have bought a brand new RRS for about the same dollar value:o

I like it. If I was back in australia I would easily offer him 10-15k and buy it if he said yes. A lot of mods already done to it.
