has anyone here driven/ bought the V8??

Can't say I've seen any reports. I think I'll go test drive and see how it compares to the 3.0diesel and the V8 I have in the D3.

Driven many also,
We have had a fair few go through the w/shop.
Yes they will go hard & sound superb:D

The newer 5.0ltr will return better fuel economy than the earlier 4.4ltr version.

The D4 only comes in one spec - HSE, with all the fruit.

Cheers.

Hi sniegy,
I suspect that you mean the D4 V8. ;)
It would be helpful to clarify your previous post. :)
Best Wishes,

The new D4 V8 is quicker than the old RRS Supercharged V8
If only LRA would approve LPG conversion ..................

Yeah, that's the down side. Who needs lcd screens for rear seats when rear seats will spend their entire life folded down or removed. etc, etc. And the 20" wheels.......I assume brake calipers are same size as the rest of the range so it should be possible to at least go back to 19" (not that there are many tyres to choose from when I get there )

So I went and tet drove the V8 today.......The sales guy jumped in to start it....oops, flat battery. :o He said it hadn't been driven for about 4 or 5 days. He didn't seem at all suprised. :( Noting the demo was an AUG 09 build, is there known issues with battery life????

Fatnold,
No battery life issue that I am aware. But with all that electronic wizardry, doors opened and closed in the show room etc and no miles done except to get onto the showroom floor a flat battery is not a surprise.
Some with more detailed knowledge of batteries may also chime in regarding the damage fully draining a battery might do, so could be worthwhile getting it replaced with a nice new one if you go ahead with that vehicle.

Some of the earlier builds suffered from battery drain - the assurance software update is supposed to rectify this. Perhaps the demo hasn't been updated?

I tend to agree with discoweb on this one, and sneigy will probably be able to confirm how often it happens, but I have been in a few dealerships of varying brands and found brand new cars on the showroom floor with flat batteries.

Electronic devices drain batteries if the cars aren't driven.

So what happens when I leave the car at the airport for 2 weeks or camp in the same spot for 4 or 5 days?:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: scary.

well as long as your not playing with all the electronics, moving mirrors seats, looking at the pretty pictures from the camera's etc you should be fine. Moving seats in particular puts a reasonable drain on the battery, and in a dealers car, that is often the first thing that gets touched once you sit inside.

Hi all,
As Gordon has also said, the assurance program may not have been done to this vehicle.
Early vehicles suffered from battery drain, this is not the vehicles fault in particular but can be a salesperson problem as the vehicle ignition is left on & they sit with the customer & drain battery going through all the options.
If the vehicle is locked & key stowed away from the vehicle as need be there shouldnt be a problem.
There has been a couple of instances of flat batteries, but this is slowly being rectified by the assurnce program Q093.

Cheers.

Fatnold,
Interesting subtext here. Assuming you go the V8 which I think is only available in HSE guise and therefore with the proximity key.
If you are camping for a few days somewhere you must ensure that, if you have the proximity key you must store it far enough away from the vehicle that the car is not constantly thinking you are about to get in a drive away, thereby flattening the battery.
Worthwhile to note, probably not such an issue if parking for a while at an airport but if you were to say store your keys close to your garage I wonder if the car would spend all night being confused ?
Anyone know roughly what distance the key needs to be away from the car?
I remember a Top Gear episode where one of the presenters, I think Jeremy Clarkson got in to a Mustang or something like that Richard Hammond had been driving. It was parked outside a diner and Hammond was inside eating lunch with the electronic key in his pocket. They were able to open the car, start it and drive it about 20m before it stopped, incidentally out in the middle of the road.

George

Just picked up my TDi 3.0 HSE yesterday :D with the proximity key. It only works when within about 1-2 metres of the vehicle and knows which door I'm at. Also (and I tried this since I have a metal brief case) the key won't activate anything if it's in a metal case, so that may be a way of isolating it safely inside the D4. In due course I'll try and see if a trailer hitch safe also prevents the key from "talking". Spare key is already safety-wired in SWMBO's purse so it may be the first-ever car I've owned in 30 years that she won't lose the key for it [bigwhistle] Maybe some day the access will rely on a fingerprint, so it's less likely to have stolen (unless a finger is removed:eek: )

so is it fair to say/ expect that if i left the proximity key in the car or up in the roof tent for a couple of days the battery would probably go flat???
Seems finding somewhere for a second battery is essential. I bought but hadn't fitted a 2nd battery kit from taxride for my D3. Seems that would be the first job.

Fatnold,
I have exactly the same issue, I have Traxides wonderful piece of dual battery system & now have to figure a way of fitting it to the D4. It will go in the original spot as the D3, just have to fabricate the new brackets for the modules...Time, just need more time....:p

Now I really gotta sell the D1. :o
