I've spent nearly a year making room in the shed, setting myself up with tools and parts, and generally stuffing around.
So now we're into it and starting to see how big the job will be
So far
rust in both dumb iron ends, and back to axle buffer on left
bulkhead toprail a gonner
bulkhead uprights ok but rotted out at chassis bolt
footwells small holes only (maybe)
rear crossmember ok at ends, some rust where implement bar attaches
really annoying section cut out of tub front - see pics
compression test a pretty even 90 across all cylinders, little smoke
springs a bit flat, rusted in front left
Some tricky chassis patching needed, so will strip down completely.
I have a couple of wrecks for parts - one with very good bulkhead, springs and front axle with good swivel hub housings.
Think I'm up for new rings and valves, at least.
New brake bits on the way, shopping for steering ball joints, etc
Properly wintery down here now, so fewer outside jobs on weekends. Just need a heater in the shed.
Kids keep busy peeling silicone rubber off rear tup where PO had thoughfully stuck carpet (every Tassie S1 I have seen is fully carpeted, or has been at some stage).
More pics as we progress
Cheers
