I'm getting a little frustrated by the drop down ads on this site. If you move the mouse over them on the way to a link, they drop down and cover the links below them. The vodaphone and foxtel ones's don't retreat either, so if you want to go to the markets section or your PM's, too bad, you need to refresh of go to another page first. :(

i agree they are annoying would not be as bad if you could close them

The only ads I see on this site are the banner ones up the top above the Markets etc.
I have never had any drop down ones, and get no drop down ones even if I scroll over the banner ads.
Not really sure what you guys are on about , maybe you need to change a setting?

they are the ones but if we move over them it enlarges to cover 1/2 the screen:(

You can get ad blocking software with some browsers, but it can slow up the site and without the income stream of the ads, we may have to pay a compulsory membership fee to access AuLRO.

In Firefox if you run your cursor from bottom to top and off the advert, it closes ;)

Yes they do drop down when the cursor is over them but they retreat as soon as you move the mouse cursor off them.
Not a problem if they are helping to keep the site going.

Hopefully, because i find them EXTREMELY annoying. If there was a way to get them to go back up so they don't cover things, that would be fine.

I had the same hair pulling frustration with that damn foxtel one. I think the reason it stays down on this machine is the crap processor i am using while the mac is in the shop.

I agree, they're very annoying especially when they won't go away.
Eventually the advertisers will get the message that annoying adverts don't sell anything... especially if they're chewing up bandwidth and processor just to be even more annoying.

I'm running opera so I don't know if that makes a difference. The vodaphone does close. I'll try the foxtel one and see what happens.
I'm not against the ads. I realise they provide income to the site. I just don't like it when things try to 'take over' my computer :)

Daves probably going to shoot me now.......)

The Vodaphone one is the worst. It won't go away until it's finished its spiel.

I have an overwhelming urge to punch Lewis Hamilton hard in the face...but don't want to hurt my screen! :p
I don't mind ads, but the Foxtel & Vodafone ads (especially) are really hindering the ability to navigate this forum. Surely there has to be a balance which can be achieved to keep everyone happy?

I haven't seen this Ad drop down you are all complaining about.I might have to disable the above to see what all the complaining is about.
It's not worth Complaining if you don't do anything about it, the solution is simple:wasntme:

from the developers
these ads are designed so the ad reverts to its original size once you move the mouse away from it and particularly once you take your finger off your mouse. That's the IAB standard. If this is not happening then it may be more of a technical issue that I can work to resolve for you. If your users are looking to avoid them I would suggest maybe putting up a message to let them know that as long as they don't go over the ad with their mouse, it won't expand. And then if they do, and they want the ad to go away, just move the mouse away from the ad or take their finger off the mouse for a second and it will go back to normal. if they dont behave as above and you can replicate it at will, please let me know and they will look at why...

At work, running XP and internet explorer 7, the vodafone and foxtel ads don't retreat. I can refresh and repeat at will. All streaming is blocked so I don't know if that affects it.

I'm using IE8 and the adverts didn't retreat when the mouse was moved away. I tried refreshing the screen which someone else suggested and that seemed to work.

If the advert drops down, try moving your mouse away, then back over the ad.
You might have to wait for a second or 2, but this should make the ad roll up again.

Tried that but to no avail. The only cure seems to be waiting for the ad to end.

I’m finding these adverts impossible.
You have to wait for them to finish downloading from some other site that appears to be very slow before the Aulro page will load. This is incredibly frustrating when searching for articles, and you are skipping from page to page.
It’s taking about 43 seconds to load a page.

Poo. You're right. The temporary bliss was pleasant albeit shortlived. Instead its 1:30am and an ad started talking at me
But at least it means the forum is still here ;)
