I brought a new fuel tank (replacement main) and found that they have welded the fuel pump mount in 180 degrees out so the fuel lines point to the rear instead of the front.

I contacted the manufacture & thay have offered to replace the tank but also suggested I could cut the locating tab off the fuel pump.

what are the pro & cons of cuting the tab off? once the fuel pump retaining ring is clamped in place by the screws is it likekly to leak or rotate?

Thanks Roger

You could probably get away with cutting the locating tab off, as the seal is around the ring / gasket that sits inside the tab. I'd be filling in the "hole" that the locating tab is supposed to sit into with silicone before fitting if I was going to try this.

But if it was me and I had the time - I'd be taking the supplier up on the offer of a replacement tank.

Ummm, make sure you use the right quality silicon (RTV fuel quality) or some other fuel quality sealant, as most silicon are dissolved by fuel.

Do to time constraints I cut the tab of the fuel pump & installed the tank.

the clamping ring has enough pressure on the tank so it should not move & there are no leaks with the tank full to the brim.
