I live a fair distance from the nearest mobile phone tower and my mobile will not work properly in all rooms of the house. Is there any form of passive repeater (antenna system) commercially available to boost signal level? Jim

not that i know of but its a wonder someone hasnt come up with an invention where as you could plug your mobile into a hub via a usb cable and the hub would have a couple of rover type handsets like they have now which is connected to a landline

A lot of CB people had a thing called, I think, a linear amplifier to boost their signal strength. would something like this work for a mobile 'phone? I have no radio knowledge whatsoever, but this was just a thought dredged out of memory.

linear amp will only work for transmitting....

not exactly ideal, but you could run a in-car kinda setup with an external aerial

Just been going through this myself, do a google search for mobile phone antenna and i found a place that does a booster that the SES use for about $270. looked really good but the big problem is that not many mobiles have an antenna jack socket. if yours has an external antenna port then you can get a cheap antenna from the telstra shop or jaycar for about $30. worth a try for that money. I ended up getting a t90 phone thats recommended for rural use, works a treat. from what i learnt theres heaps of good aussie made antennas out there but not many phones to plug them into..:(

pretty sure you can get an external antenna, mount it on the roof and have cable run into the house.....you just need a phone with an external antenna plug thingy

When I was at Ningaloo there was a guy in the caravan park at Yardie Creek Station doing a roaring trade in selling 7Db gain car antennas on a long piece of plastic tube to all the caravans .

I could only get signal on the road outside with my 4DB on the roof of the car.

So where you are in a just marginal area, a car antenna on the roof will make a great difference if you have facility for an antenna input.

The height makes all the difference if there is a hill/obstruction to line of sight.
