Silly question re D3 panels....

Lol I'm sure this'll be a dumb question but are the panels aluminium or something? I've noticed that my daughters magnetic p plates wont "stick".

Would be cool if they were for weight/rust etc?

I seem to remember as a young fella people telling me that the old landrovers were aluminuim.... is this still the case even with discos etc?

If they are aluminium they don't seem to promote this on brochures etc for which I reckon would be a very cool feature?

Am I missing something here? :)

And just to keep the stupid questions coming, does the windscreen have metalic UV filtering? I am thinking of using a glass mount uhf antenna but cannot if the screen has metalic tint.

3's in Oz may have different glass than 3's in Canada, but as best I can determine, there is certainly no Infra Red filtering that reduces heat transmission, and as far as UV is considered, I do not think anything special is done either, other than what the normal light tint in the windscreen takes out.

I have noticed that on the high class FFRR, Land Rover makes a sound transmission option available, (a little ear symbol on the glass), that is supposed to reduce the amount of outside sound transmitted thru the glass; no IR reduction options seem available.

In North America, we use the term Low E, (meaning low emissivity), to denote glass that reduces Infra Red transmission. GM and I suppose Ford as well, put low E glass in near all their domestic vehicles and as such, can reduce the size of the air conditioner and hence corporate wide, improve average fuel efficiency (CAFE).

Generally European vehicles do not have low E glass as for the most part, all of Europe is cloudy most of the time. The UK in particular is not what would commonly be called "Big Sky Country".

Re your windscreen and UHF antenna, if you have the heated windscreen with the little vertical wires, their may be problem; otherwise, I doubt it. I attached a patch type cellular antenna to the underside on my glass roof near the rear and I would say the patch antenna picks up cell phone signals; cell phone shows more signal strength bars when connected than when not. There is a lot more tint in the glass roof than there is in the windscreen so ...

I think you will be right. If the windscreen blocked radio signals think of all the GPS units which would not be working.
