If this has been the subject of previous threads please point me in the right direction
Most of the driving will be on bitumen and when off road is most likely to be on wet tracks yes living in the wet tropics.
Had Goodrich All Terrain on a previous 4WD but open to any suggestions anyone may have
Cheers

Continentals are popular for a good reason. Pat

Hi, ive had my 03 TD6 for a couple of weeks now and am looking at tyres. It has 255/60/18 goodyear wranglers on which are very noisey (makes it sound like a bearing) and nearly worn out. its a mine field this tyre caper but the continentals do get some good feedback about road noise. from what ive found out so far these great cars really suffer from tyre noise with some brands. just wish i could get the cooper LTZ on my rims but they start at 285.please keep us updated with your search.
cheers

You can get the cooper LTZ's on your rims.
Some are fitting these to D3's & D4's.
They may be oversize dependent on where you live.
Cooper make a bit of a deal in there publicity about how good these are on the Landrover Family ie RRS, RR & D3/4.

OEm Bridgestones are nice and quiet as are Pirrelli's. Cooper STT are great on dirt (and give you an extra inch in height, but scrape the guards for a little while - only when parking), are noisy on the blacktop and cost you in fuel consumption. I have a set of rims for off-road with STT's and a set for on-road. The on-road tyres are the OEMs which came with the rims and will be replaced by a set of Cooper Xeons.

I'm on my 5th set of tyres now - 18" on my L322 td6 HSE.
My current tyres are are Falken and have been the best thus far with no punctures and 30k with about 10k left.
They are one size wider than standard but almost the same rolling diameter.
The Coopers were a waste of money and gave me the worst service - 20k with plenty of punctures after 10k.
None of the 5 sets have ever made any noise that I've heard.
Tread is largely irrelevant as the ETC make sup for lack of tyre grip and therefore the most important is high speed bitumen grip as ETC can't help you there anyway.
It is critical to get the correct 4 wheel alignment - the rear wheels must be properly aligned!

My Td6 had the factory Goodyears and these blocked and became very noisy. I fitted Pirelli Scorpion Zeros and these also blocked and became noisy but lasted longer than Goodyears. Now on Conti Supercontact and all quiet. in June fitted two new on front.

Since this is still going my conti HT's are now getting quite cut up as I've been doing allot of dirt/rock driving, they are still very quiet and have boatloads of grip but I've had three puntures through the tread so I'm going to go the harder A/T type for my next set.I might even switch to michy's as I like both makes. Anyone have the Michelin Latitude Tour HP? I fitted these to my D2 and after 106000km they still drive perfectly - very quite, no balance issues, still plenty of wet grip, admittedly they are now end of life.
My L322 has Coopers fitted by previous owner (as did my D2 when purchased). I can say they are the worst tyres I’ve ever driven on - so they must go.
Thinking Michelin (at $460 ea) but also Continental has been suggested. Wondering if the extra $ is the go…

106k - you've got to be kidding!!!!!!!!!
At 100k the shocks need replacing as well as a whole heap of other chassis brake and running gear components.
You guys must be ex Volvo drivers pussyfooting around and driving on straight smooth glass roads with no hills and no curves! And in that case you'd be better of driving a Volvo rather than a 2½-3 tonne truck.
Anyway if you're talking abaout a solid axle D2 then it's a whole different ball game compared to the IS on the D3, D4, RRS and L322 trucks.
I drive about 85k per annum and never get anymore than about 25 - 30k out of any tyres irrespective of their price and/or quality.
In fact taking all factors into consideration I've found that the cheapest tyres work out better as you get more frequent balance, good tread depth and less punctures overall.

No I'm not - we dug out receipts when trying to work it out - I thought it was about 80 and couldn’t believe they have gone that far... Granted that is 16" wheels on a D2 and I am aware that I won't see any where near that mileage with low profiles on the L322.
Interesting point about going cheap and replacing more often, a good point to consider for sure. I'm just really keen to get something quite.

100k out of the original Michelin 205R16s used to be quite common on the Classic Range Rovers & D1s so I could well believe it on a well driven D2 also.

I still own a couple of classics as well as a D2, owned a P38 for 100k and now an L322 for 150k. I also owned/drove various Pajeros and an 80s LC for 300k.
Not much difference between any of them - Pajeros got between 12k - 20k per set of tyres on the IS model and 35k on the solid axle models.
25k-40k per set on the LC.
RRs - classics 30k, P38 30k, D2 30k, L322 25k -30k.
However I do drive my vehicles like they were designed and not as a shopping trolley on the north shore of Sydney! :D

Michelin tyres do get the miles,I've had three sets of them.I do agree about the rest of it,my brakes are at minimum thickness for both pads and disc's,I've ordered a new set at $650 for disc's and pads.It can go on the $1400 I just paid for new caliper bush's,rear wishbone bush's a new blinker assembley that I shattered hitting a duck at 120 and getting the tranny flushed five times and refilled. It still needs a wheel alignment and I'm pulling the rad out to get it rodded and new hoses, belts and the Tdi needs a new cam belt.I need some overtime.
