The wife had a number of issues yesterday not sure if they where releated or just a coincidence but they all occurred around the same time.

-The rear tailgate button stopped working,
-The sound down button on the steering wheel stopped working
-And a message on the dash stated that there was a problem with the Auto and not all gear selections where avaible?? (translation from wife)

The sound button started working again but intermittenly stops working, the tailgate button is still not working. Turning the car off and on cleared the warning on the dash.

Any Ideas?

I'd be checking the battery condition first.

If the car detects low voltage, it starts shutting down non-essential items (usually the radio first) & can throw up all sorts of strange messages.

I have a feeling the tailgate problem might be an actuator issue though.

My tail gate button stopped working a few months ago. Turned out to be the failure of the cable attached to the actuator. Bought a new assembly and DIYed it. Easy job once you get pass the difficult access issue as the only way you can open your tail gate is to climb in the back and prise open the panel in the upper door.

When you press the button to open the door can you hear the actuator going? If yes then it is the cable. If not then it is something else.

Hi Guss,

My other half gave our D4 back to me and quoted the same message '.......not all gear selections......' SWMBO had the D4 for 3 days, and the message came up each day ? I have no idea what caused it, as I cannot replicate the appearance of the message. As far as I can ascertain, everything is working ok. Might be a girl thing.

Might have to go as a passenger and observe.

I've had the "..limited gears available..." transmission fault - traction limited"...faults flash up a few times (only ever on ignition start up) during my 80,000km's and each time I turned off ignition, turned it on again and nothing further; Service guys cleared fault having found nothing; It did happen a few times before I changed batteries - and then nothing for about a further 40,000km's after new battery fitted - so I also thought it might be battery related.

Interesting....

This happened to me driving yesterday as I stop at some lights. Seem to make no difference as I drove off normally withut an ignition recycle.

Same thing today, same set of lights, exactly same situation, just drove on normally.

Soon due for a service anyway, so they can check.
