Your L322 looks great, wish I had grey seats instead of cream. When you are next in the market for tyres try the Cooper STT's they look great, perform well off road and only scrape in car parks. BUT they are noisy and will cost you 1L per 100Km or so in fuel consumption. Have you found the space to put a Optima 2nd battery under the RHS rear well?

tell me more about the second battery in the back :)

Nice car - looks like it's never been off the bitumen!
Interesting upholstery scheme!

What driving lamps does it have - how are they mounted - switched?
any chance of a close up pic of them - I need something brighter - the Xenon's that I retrofitted off a Vogue wreck are in need of support.

Will get some pics of the lights at the weekend for you, they are land rover lights and look to be fitted from new as there is the fitting instructions with the service history. they are mounted to the factory A frame (nudge bar) and the switch is on the dash below the heated screen switches. they only power up with high beam.
the lights are good as we live in the country but i dont like the nudge bar much, but it keeps the spotties on i suppose.
It has done a bit of off road as there is some interesting marks on the bash plates underneath. getting pirelli scorpion ATRs fitted on saturday and then starting to kit it out for touring for our big trip next year.

cheers

I also live in the bush and use mine for 4wding every day, however my only damage underneath is where I forgot about the lowered highway EAS setting and bashed the f/g front diff guard on a kerb in town.

Mine also has the facory bar up front and it has saved us from quite a few roo hits. The dealer didn't even offer me any factory lights otherwise I would've got them when I bought the truck.

I tried all sorts off tyres over the years on mine and found the best all round to be Falken - basically road tyres but they have less punctures than all the other brands including expensive Coopers which turned out to be the worst of the lot in that respect and the worst for longevity.

Here some pics of my L322 I bought last week.

Its a 2004 TD6.. got it with 99,000k's on it.. Condition it great for the age:D
Have to say I am absolutely loving the car:D Will have it for many years I reckon.
Has a HR towbar but I think its going to be too low for my 4x4 camper trailer. What do you guys do?

Cheers

Hi Camo

It looks good for a 7 year old truck - it must be good as the dog seems very happy as well.

How you Queenslanders put up with black I don't know?

I don't know about your tow bar as it's not in the pics - I have the factory std tb and the tongue height is not too different from that on a Toyota Landcruiser - my camper trailer tows behind each just as nicely remembering that once off road the RR lifts whilst on the highway it sits nice and low making the tow set up very stable.

If you're still not happy and if your tb has the std 50mm square female receptacle then it is a very simple job to visit your local auto parts shop and buy a 50 mm male tongue of the correct height to suit your trailer - they only cost about $25 each and most can be positioned either way to give even more height posibilities.

The std RR tb has a solid 50mm male tow adapter so it fully rated for 3500 kg off road duty. You may need to beef up what you purchase as most are rated for the jap 4wds which only cope with towing 2500 kg and off road that is not good enough.

I also modified my std RR tb by threading a hole to accept an M12 bolt to pinch the female tongue and eliminate any rattle.

Combined with my camper O'Briens coupling I have unlimited towbar articulation and absolutely no noise under any conditions whatsoever.

Enjoy your truck!

I know.. was after a silver one but this one came up. Its going to be annoying having to wash it all the time!

Great idea with threading an M12 bolt in as it does rattle a bit.

Will take a pic of the tongue as it is a landrover one. Bloody heavy thing!

Hey Camo that looks great, good klm too.
cant believe ive had mine a year, absolutley love it, its never had a problem and ive put over 40k on it, but it does get serviced well and preventative maintainance is the key. the thing i like is the more time you spend in it the better it gets. it just does everything so well and with no fuss.
from experience its a heavy car so keep an eye on the tyres, i rotate and balance every 5k to get the most out of the them but thats once a month at the minute :o

hope it serves you well mate

Will get the auto serviced next chance I get. Was quoted 700 bucks to do. Apparently it has a plastic sump which they change for one which makes the following services cheaper.. does that sound right?

That doesnt sound right, mines got a tin sump and was serviced for $260. the dearest quote was $500 but i got the vibe he didnt want the job. wish someone around here had a megaflush machine. I would shop around mate, thats very expensive considering only half the oil gets changed. please let us know how you go.

I was at Bruce Davis the other day (test driving their 5.0l P38) and discussing the virtues of both l322 petrol and diesel and their mechanic said they have seen 2 diesels (for fuel pumps) in the last few years and dozens of petrols for various other things. I haven't owned one but from i have heard the diesels are pretty reliable, however i do love the sound of a nice V8!

True in some ways...

Ive only owned V8's since I was 17. Last car was a VY SS and a 1990 Rangie.

My heart was set on a V8 Vogue. Nice car with all the options and a smooth V8. Then jumped in a diesel L322 and was amazed how it drove;) never looked back at the V8 option.

Never thought I would be converted. I used to hate diesels! Driving the L322 from Melbourne to Gold Coast was the best drive ive done.. just wanted to keep on going. Averaged 9.8litres per 100 the whole trip:D and the little diesel has more than enough power.. perfect engine for the car.

Don't think I will ever buy a petrol again.. The new diesels are just too bloody good nowadays

Plastic tranny sump? - no, just an ordinary steel one.
Anyway check what gets done at the so called "service".
As you can see from the other posts, a service can take various forms/prices.
The ATO fluid must be the correct type - that's mainly why they are sealed for life. :)

I've spent countless hours researching this with lubricant manufacturers and finally with GM. Most lubricant manufacturer service assistance desks don't want to talk to you when you state that you are enquiring about either RangeRover L322 td6 or BMW X5 3.0tdi. Apparently they have a large red caution on their systems that warns them to not provide any ATO fluid advice for those vehicles.

Many service centres simply use the latest spec synthetic fluid which is a big mistake.
The proper spec fluid sells for $900 per 20 litre drum at BMW and LandRover dealers however even BMW dealers get the specs wrong and they mix up the petrol tranny fluid with the diesel tranny. ZF v GM.
A proper service will use the best part of 20 litres.
The genuine filter sells locally for $150 or thereabouts.
Therefore the minimum parts cost of a genuine service will be over $1000.

I've done it myself with the proper GM spec fluid which I sourced on special order from Valvoline. I imported the filter/sump gasket kits from a BMW dealer in USA. Even then my parts/fluid cost $325.

Beware as rapid transmission failure occurs following a service utilising the wrong spec fluid. Read some of the horror stories from England where these trucks have now been running around for 10 years with long distances on the odo. Beware of the wrong spec fluid!!! For us with our higher temps and more trailer towing it is even more critical. Confusion reigns as some service centres just look at the tranny and assume that it is the same GM tranny as other GM family vehicles have. Apparently even some model Commodores run the same tranny (drivetrain gears etc) but that is not the issue. The issue is with the aluminium valve body which is different spec alloy and other properties for every vehicle. Apparently BMW source(d) the GM tranny for the L322 td6 from a tranny manufacturer in Strausbourg, France.

Any quote of a service for $200 or $300 is guarenteed  to be using the incorrect fluid so you are far better off keeping the factory sealed for life fluid in your tranny.

Thanks for info Daniel. Much appreciated;)

I just rang MR Auto in Brissy and they use Valvoline Max Life full synthetic. $400 to change the oil and filter. They said the fluid is alot cheaper than what D3's use??

This is getting frustrating!

What is the exact type of fluid?

The correct ATF is Valvoline synthetic ATF #1272 - this ATF is to Dexron VI spec.

I don't know what "Max Life" is and I wouldn't trust anybody that uses a name for ATF - only the manufacturer's code can be trusted. And make sure that such an ATF code is specified on your service paynment receipt.

If the fluid is changed by a dealer then ensure that they do a complete change and not just a partial change (only drop the sump). For a complete change the 5 litres out of the sump is changed as well as a complete flush of the tranny and from all the pipes and cooler circuit. This takes a full 20 litres of more to do it properly. 20 litres of #1272 will cost $275 at wholesale. A filter will cost $150 from a dealer. plus labour.
So if you're being quoted anything less than that they are taking short cuts at your expense.

Anyway there is no hurry - looking at the condition of your truck and if it's only done 100k then you have plenty of time to get this right.

Hope this helps?

Have you made sure that the factory recall/front diff replacement has been done on your truck? This is a far more critical matter than an ATF change.

yep - D3 and RRS, unfortunately when you ask a transmission spec about a Range Rover, there is no distinction between L322 and L320.

Has a HR towbar but I think its going to be too low for my 4x4 camper trailer. What do you guys do?

I think you will be happy with your new truck...

Agree the tow bar is too low, it is actually not Aus standards (430mm). You may struggle to find someone to make a new tongue (Queensland Towbars used to do one), I made my own (can pic if wanted) and threaded a HT bolt to stop the rattles, they are heavy because of the solid shaft, which presents problems for manufacture.

The tongue is long to allow for the larger than average crumple zone – it brings that heavy cross member forward away from the rear bumper.

If you look deep in the owner’s manual there is a spec for the towbar tongue. It provides the max allowable length measurements. You will also find it should have a solid shaft as apposed to RHS due to the length. Have a look under the car, it’s more substantial than jap built 3.5t rated vehicles (and D2,3,4 for that mater). Combine that with a solid shaft and there’s no issues. The 4 HT bolts securing the trailer coupling will shear long before the towbar fails.

Suggest you talk to Hayman Reece they have a clue and have one in their cat. that will suite, but you will find no one will have in stock – order in from china...

Yep was the first thing I checked. Was easy as.. I rang landrover and gave them the VIN number of the car and got an answer right away.

I hooked the camper trailer on yesterday.. sits a bit low but will do for a few trips I guess.. makes it easier to un-hook the trailer with suspension setting on high but still have to lift a bit.. say about 90kgs on the ball.

I have a large tool box on my drawbar in which I place all the heavy items such as spare battery, tool kit and a hd spare wheel. My draw bar weight at the coupling is about 150 kgs. Makes it a very safe tow vehicle like that as the EAS adjusts the vehicle height anyway. When I tow another trailer (which has other requirements) I made up a tow tongue out of 50mm squre tube (with 8mm wall thickness). It is about 600 mm long and comes out dead straight. It costs me $15 for the tube and then I just drilled one hole for the pin and another couple for the trailer coupling.

I tow trailers with anything up to 3 tonnes in them regularly and you can't get a better tow truck than the L322 td6 (if only my RRC which has a GMC 6.5 turbo diesel had EAS - but that is the next project convert it to EAS).

Mine was done at some point.. the owners had no idea it had been done.. but they did have it serviced at a landrover dealership all of its life. Would have been fixed at a service I bet.

Pretty sure you can still get it done. Just call a landrover dealership

I was talking to a Tech-Rep at Nulon and he stated that their new 100% Synthetic Multi Vehicle Auto Transmission Fluid is compatible to Texaco ETL 7045E ( The Original Fill) in these boxes and retails around $220-$240 for 20 ltr's.
Would this be safe to use ?

There is so much dis-information on this gearbox's oil type; it's very hard to decide which oil should be used.

Daniel

responses to 2 questions -

1. ATF - it doesn't matter if any ATF manufacturer lists their product as being "compatible" with any other's ATF. What is most important is that the ATF is listed on GM ATF spec sheet. I researched that and Valvoline #1272 is. I don't recall any "nulon" products being listed.

2. Diff recall - My diff went during my 100k warranty period and I had to battle LR to fix it under warranty. I had a major discussion with LR Australian Technical Services Manager pre failure about the issue. She (yes that's right it was a woman with basically no knowledge of mecahnical issues) was adamant that there would be no recall (although every body around the world was aware of the common failures) and when I raised the point that my local dealer had already replaced 2 or 3 with LR (incidentally with no LR subsidy for the cost of repairs) she dismissed that as of no consequence. Anyway a couple of months later my diff went out the back west of Moree on a weekend - tow truck bills, hotels bills, rental car bills, headaches etc.
After some battling LR covered the diff repair and a minor part of the other costs. Some months later my dealer contacted me to tell me that the diff had to be repaired as part of the "recall" procedure. I then got another diff repair/replacment done. It was not an official recall and it was left by LR for each dealer to contact L322 owners to have the work done. So I wouldn't trust any body to know which L322 has had the diff done and which hasn't unless you've seen it done yourself. LR were hopeless initially and the National manager of Customer Relations was quite happy to be quoted as saying that LR have no obligations other than the manufacturer warranty. When I mentioned the statutory warranty under the Trade Practices Act - he stated that there is no such thing! Like all vehicle manufacturers and most dealers, they are a very stubborn and illiterate mob that would probably be better off selling life insurance or something like that.

Hi Daniel – sorry to bring this up again….

I have had my trans serviced and after all this reading I’m now quite paranoid that’s it’s been filled with the incorrect AFT.

They have used Penrite ATF DX-VI. The product bulletin talks about GM transmissions bla bla bla - but as you’ve said their listing gives nothing for the RR or X5.

Where/who can I find if this (or other) ATF is listed on GM ATF spec sheet.

Hi there - I suspect that your ATF may be OK - need to check the GM license number to make sure.
I've got a copy of the GM spec sheet for the ATF which also lists all of the approved ATFs including the relevant GM license numbers - if someone can tell me how to upload it to this forum then I can do so..

What do you mean "go off road"?
I've had mine reverse up a hill from a standing start half way down a hill inon which a fully kitted LC 80s with 35" mudders had trouble going up full blast with a run up!
With all the electro stuff doing its job the L322 is a mean off road machine regardless of the coating or colour of the wheels.

I love it! I knew someone would come fishing with me:D I didnt say its good to see on that would go off road I said one that 'looks' like it would go offroad. In other words its nice to see one look aggressive because normally they look soft. I saw another one in black with similar tyres (ie genuine off road tyres) on Straddie once and it was sweet. Seeing as you raised wheels - its not colour no, but the profile size and height sitting atop that wheel. There are too many threads to re-hash that though.

Can get 20 lt's of Castrol Dexron VI (which is on the list) for about $290 from my local dealer. But tech dept could n NOT tell if it had the right GM license No. "nothing to do with them, thats a GM problem"

Other option was to provide a sample of oil from trans and for $45 they would lab test it to find out what exactly it is. (possible best option)

So now what. Test or take a chance or look elsewhere

I had mine done the other day.. used the valvoline maxlife. Auto place swore it is compatible and would be the best for the job. Put a new filter in and 6 litres of oil.. Filter part no. FK-1153 which was 60 bucks and 60 bucks for the oil. Total for the service was $220. Glad I had it done as the gear changes are super smooth now. Didn't realise it would make that much difference.

Not so sure about that one Camo as its not a Dexron VI oil (GM recomended oil for late model Trans ) Not on the list provided by Daniel all tho his list is a little old. But then I could be totally wrong too

Say it should be fine. MR auto in Redcliffe (landrover specialists) use the Max Life in the L322 Diesel.

Busman (Dave) recommended Russells AT Specialists in Oxenford (07)55617061 for any work as they rebuilt the auto in his D3. Must say, they were very professional.

Yay! After months of searching, and being stuffed around by all and sundry, I finally have my new baby in the driveway. The search was long and hard, and I have lost count of how many vehicles I have looked at and driven. This one was the best I have managed to find in my price range, and while it has a few more KM than I would have ideally liked, everything checks out on it.

It is a 2003 HSE in Dark Blue (not sure what the actual colour is). 20" wheels - which I wasn't really looking for, but hey what can you do...:D Tinted windows, upgraded tail lights, side grills & side indicators - to 06 spec. Aftermarket Pioneer navigation, Sunroof, etc, etc - you all know what they come with.:)

I am the third owner - it was traded in just out of warranty by the original owner (Like most are), and the guy I bought it off has had it since, and only selling because of the new house he and his missus just bought (so I am told), but it does check out - all the reciepts show his last address up until 3 months ago) - we will see...

Mechanically - its the TD6, with 155KKM. Transmisson rebuilt 22KKm ago, and recently serviced. Full LR service history, new compressor, windscreen and fuel pump. It is in immaculate condition - particullaly inside, as it had a brick thrown through the window 12 months ago, and a $20K insurance claim that saw a whole new dashboard and front seats (covers) replaced - it looks like it just came out of the showroom inside.

A few small scratches & scuff marks in the paint, but with a good detail and polish, most of this will come out I think - no dings or dents, it is still very straight.

I am in love with this car already - I have clocked up 200Km tonight bringing it home a very long winded route, and driving in both Urban and Country environments, and it is brilliant - far better than I would have imagined on all the short test drives I have done!

Too dark to take pics tonight, and I am off first thing in the morning for the weekend with the kids, so won't get a chance to take pics until Sunday I would imagine. Will be towing a caravan back from the outlaws on Sunday with it, so I'll see what it's like with a load behind it.

Well I assume it has more advanced logarithms for off roading than the 6hp26, which does really well. So I think you will have a hard time getting more stuck without an e-diff, even in your driveway.

The interior looks very different. Ive never seen one like that. It must have been custom ordered, at quite a price. It looks like it should have been destined for the middle east or US with a supercharged motor.

I agree a burgundy type colour is quite different. However, I dont know if another interior would be better. It does go with anything.

Sorry Graeme. Autobiography does explain the the interior, incl pedals. I didn't pick up on the AB reference.

I took it for a short drive today searching for bumps and patches of rough road around Artarmon to do a very basic comparison of its ride on 20" rims and CVDs with the D4's 17" P-rated tyres and quite new D4 shocks - very promising. The drive home on country back-roads in 10-14 days will be the proper test. I'm wanting the front brake hose recall and secondary turbo updated drain fitted before pick-up.

Top money but for a top vehicle - pity no e-diff but I doubt lack of one is going to limit what I will ever want to do with it. I have to get used to doing things with only 1 arm and 1 leg now.

Very nice bit of kit Graeme, and same build date as mine. Remarkably low kilometres for a three year old car too. Good find. Are you going to get an extended warranty, or is it too late for that?
I'm just about to shell out $3.5k to extend mine....begrudgingly, I'll admit, but with my LRA history it's probably worthwhile insurance.

Graeme
2nd August 2015, 03:11 PM
Thanks Greg. Its a pity that the vehicle will rarely be cleaned as its rather futile here especially any time it rains, not that I'm wanting too many dry periods as nothing grows in dust.

Its now out of warranty unfortunately. It was still just in warranty by a few days when I made an unsuccessful offer on it late June. However I didn't take extended warranty on the D4 and would not have done do for this one either.

A disadvantage of such low kms is that its unlikely to have had updates that have become available during that time. It might not have ever been serviced but should have had annual services if done by the book. I've asked for the turbo drain fix but haven't had any feed-back yet. I'll be asking that it have software updates that would have been free if done under warranty a month ago although they may have been done. One with 30K may have been a better proposition but I'm chuffed that I got this one as I think its quite special.

GregMilner
2nd August 2015, 04:07 PM
Mmmm...I'm wondering if mine has had any software updates. I don't know how to tell. I should take it down to the dealer and get them to run a computer over it to check.
Don't blame you for ignoring the extended warranty, but then again you're technically proficient. I shudder at the thought of getting stranded again on our next trip and not having the warranty to justify LR recovering us.
Re low kilometres in three years, that would worry me - sounds like a lot of very short trips. Surely the service history is in the book that came with your car?
I get mine serviced every 6 months, just to be safe.

Graeme
2nd August 2015, 05:02 PM
I don't have the car yet and forgot to check the book during my brief visit. However I'm not bothered about the life its had because its not as though the engine has been subjected to 3 harsh Alpine winters without a decent run each time where condensation gets into the oil and never evaporates. I'll change the engine oil and filter soon after getting it home unless its just been changed.

My D4 could have done with extended warranty for its failed gearbox stator bushes. However I wasn't prepared to meet the warranty dealer servicing requirements because of the distance from the nearest dealer and overall was no worse off financially. Hopefully I can overcome any breakdown away from civilisation and may acquire a set of Bilstein rear shocks as spares for harsh conditions.

BobD
5th August 2015, 05:16 PM
Funny that my D4 hasn't had the stator bearing problem yet. I will get it checked and serviced again soon and if necessary preemptively recon the transmission so it doesn't fail on one of my many trips.

Congratulations on the new car. It looks very good. What are you doing with the D4?

Graeme
5th August 2015, 06:01 PM

From behind the left rear wheel have a look at the left side of the diff. If the housing is basically flat then its an open diff but if there is a real bulge starting just in from the outer bolts then its an e-diff. Otherwise PM me the last 5 digits of your VIN and I'll look up the build specs.

Ouch, all that sounds very expensive. How's the transmission?
Brilliant colour, pick of the bunch I think.
So that's a genuine bar? Haven't seen one of those before. Very jealous of the roof rack, looks great.

I'm in the process of putting an Android unit in atm, there have been a few hiccups... Worked great after they finally sent the correct harness adapter... For half an hour. Then the magic smoke came out of the top and the screen went blank. Possibly related to the existing amp in the boot being faulty (sounded like bad capacitors), I've replaced it with a second hand one I'm assured is ok. We'll see how it all goes when it comes back from repairs in China. I've gone the full Monty with front & rear cameras, I plan to install a sub as well. Also on the menu is a DAB+ radio input, the unit doesn't have them as standard but a simple USB digital tv tuner plus an app to pull the DAB stations out of it and you're good to go. Oh the joys of Android..If it would only work! I plan to write a post on it when it's all done.. Perhaps I'd better write it when it's mostly done or it'll never happen. :D

I was really worried about the gearbox when I got it as it had a bit of a shudder when reversing.....so off to the mechanic it went....they dropped fluid and said it was dirty but no sign of any metal or contaminants! New filter and fluid and still seems perfect....I might be a lucky l322 owner with the only decent box that came out of the factory!!!

Shudder turned out to be a faulty injector and early stage of injector harness failure!

I have done most of the work (other than gearbox and programming of new abs computer) myself. They are a relatively uncomplicated machine once you get to know them ( wish I could say the same about the wife)

Yeah at first I couldn't work out what coax was doing in the rear boot space and when I contacted LRA about the history they said it was a press car. I would love to have a diagram of where it all goes...might be handy to repurpose it...as I don't much fancy removing entire interiors...done it once when I drowned my p38

Hi strangerover,
What android unit did you get, am about to purchase one and am wondering if its worth it or not.

It's this one:
Ownice Pure Android 4.4.2 Car DVD For BMW E39 E53 X5 with Quad Core 1.6G CPU GPS Navi Radio Built-in WiFi Support OBDll TPMS DVR Car navigation (http://www.ownice.com/Pro_Car%20dvd%20player%20for%20BMW%20E39_OL-7957_345.html)
I got the quad-core, 16gb/2gb option. It worked really well for the few minutes before the smoke came out, steering wheel controls and all. The smoke has all been put back in and it's on its way from China right now. There's cheaper options (dual core, 1gb system RAM, 8gb memory) but I didn't want to risk having a laggy interface. I'll have a better idea of whether it's worth it in a few weeks when I've got it all in and running.

I went with this one mostly for 2 reasons:
1- high resolution screen. Most are only 800x600
2- ability to use a 1tb portable hard drive, I have an extensive music collection.

The performance improvements due to quad core and extra system memory are good but kinda incidental.

I had no idea that level of gear was available for the older models. What did you pay for that? I scanned the web page but couldn't find a price. I'd be very interested if you get yours back and it works floorlessly.

The front of the original unit (I have the MID stereo, no touch screen) is flat, the new one has a curve. It's not perfect but it's pretty good. Took a good hour and a half of careful removal of plastic from the original caddy to get it to fit happily. I'll post photos when I get it back in.

I gave the RRV a clay bar & wax yesterday. The paintwork is pretty good on these cars. Mine lives outside in the hot Qld sun in the salt air, which destroyed the paint on my 110. The prep & repaint on the 110 has taken me about a year so far. So I'm being more careful this time.

I'm trying to do this on both our cars twice a year. You can certainly feel the difference after the clay bar treatment. If hydrophobic characteristics are any guide the spray on wax provides better protection than car wash alone. However, 1Z car wash works pretty well.

Your absolutely right Craig, very rude of me. I should throw it up next time we go.

Yeah, that's the size I've got. Speedo is still slightly over-cautious, would be worse with the original size on. 103kmh on the speedo = a genuine 100 as measured by various GPS devices.

I wondered if my recovery tracks would have been of any use but as I couldn't remove the rocks from in front of the wheels with a shovel I doubt that tracks could have been fitted, but possibly behind the rear wheels. The front wheels were hard up against rocks and the body caught underneath on a rock, possibly between the front sub-frame and the gearbox cross-member.

My wife asked if I wanted a winch for Christmas...

Graeme
9th October 2016, 07:02 PM
Recovered by 2 snatches from a mid-size 4wd tray-top - the 1st lifted the RR directly up the rocks that had been blocking the wheels but stopped the tray-top then a 2nd, longer run-up as it was still caught and unable to move on its own. I suspect that it upturned a large rock in the process.

Extended mode didn't occur but possibly good that it didn't as the suspension was fully extended - offroad and Llams recovery mode and still trying.

Graeme

The BFGs are working quite well unless the RR is grounded at maximum height, only occasionally needing a blip of the throttle to clear them. Hosing the mud and gravel out of the calipers and rims, from under the guards, the lower grille, doors, mirrors, windscreen and roof is a daily routine.

Cheers gents :D. The RRV drove like a champ on the journey back to Sydney, but upon starting to use it for the daily commute it started giving me "Restricted Performance" warnings (first yellow, then red; stranding me in the middle of Cleveland St for a few mins). A new battery seems to have fixed things for now...

Haha, that's brilliant. Some very well-rounded experience there! I wanted an RS Turbo back in the day, but you couldn't find one that hadn't been completely thrashed to pieces. I love how you've put "Honda Beat" and "Ferrari F355" in the same sentence :p

Good to see others here who like all sorts of cars :) Yes in terms of my "daily drivers", in recent years I went from a Renaultsport Clio 172 to an E38 740iL to a 330Ci to another E38 740iL to a Lexus IS F to a Hilux, and now the RRV. I do like some variety.

Ah that's a massive shame! Hope you got your deposit back! Insurance is still no cheaper on them nowadays, although it depends a lot on the post code and not just the driving record, so I've been told. It's a real shame you never got to live out your desire for a JDM car - but who knows what'll happen in future :)

Yeah the Octavia RS is a decent bit of kit isn't it - Golf GTi motor, correct?

A Sprite would be a very cool thing to own - properly old school and would give a lot of smiles per mile I'm sure.

The Lexuses really are very good at what they do, aren't they - They might not have the style of the Euros but they are very refined, and they have a bulletproof feel to them, especially the electrics. The 4.3 V8 is also really smooth. I briefly ran an '06 GS430 and it was a bit of a weapon, and it took you by surprise because it did the "sedate" thing so well.

Neither intentional or jacking with key etc. The car was stored for two years and the battery went flat. The owner, put a new battery in but got the three amigos - air suspension inactive, HDC inactive and DSC inactive. The rear air shocked pumped up ok from flat but he could not get the front to rise up. I bought the car and got it to rise before I bought it, now it goes at normal height. I decided a while ago to have my roof, bonnet and upper tailgate resprayed to fix up some clear or paint peeling.

All the grey plastic parts were also in need of a respray. So I decided to get my side vents, door handles and bonnet vents colour coded in two pack at the same time.

I had to replace the RR lettering so decided on black instead of grey. Here’s the result.

Nice looking truck, I know your pain about the roof. Mine is looking a bit ordinary and I will be respraying the top later on this year and then setting up the roof racks and basket.

The 20" wheels are good around town but I am looking for a set of 19 X 9 to put some off road tyres on, I'll spray them to match the ones I have on at the moment.

Some TLC heading the trucks way later this year as well, just fitted new front struts and airbags and new ones coming for the rear as well.

Thanks. The wheels are 18” compomotives. The tyres are 265/60/18 Cooper AT3s. I’m not impressed with the Cooper tyres.

Hi rar, looks great, what did the respray set you Back?

Thanks Tim. It’s all working very nicely ATM including the traxide DBS. Thanks for that recent trouble shooting. Was I supposed to send you something relating to the L322?

Re spray cost:
• front bumper, bonnet, roof and upper tailgate was about $2700;
• plastic covers for roof channels, bonnet vent, side vents and door handles (incl backing plate) cost about $1000.

It took about 3 weeks to finish. I called in a couple of time to check progress. It was quite a lot of work.

I wouldn’t have done it except:
• I’ve decided to keep the L322 long term rather than upgrade to a 4.4 (a whole bunch of reasons eg it has 18” tyres, no EGR, new trans/transfer box, new front struts fantastic service history);
• the L322 is on a novated lease so was paid before tax (effectively a tax deduction) and I get GST back, so effectively cost me about $1850 total.

The rears are 14 years old so probably a change won't hurt I'll keep the old ones and probably rebuild them with new airbags.

My coopers are not the AT3s and working well for me at the moment.

Finally got the Vogue across from Perth.

Fitted some side steps, my trusty ShuRoo, UHF, Phone cradle, Phillips lights and got rid of the 22" rims to fit the old 20's off my Sport. For tyres i went for the 285/50 Cooper LTZ's after having 275/45's on the Sport. A few things on the tyres, that most of you know already, the 285's LTZ's are bloody noisy (compared to the 275's) for some reason, although could be more to do with the vehicle than the tyres. Also 285/50 will not fit in the spare compartment, or it sort of fits but not worth the effort modifying stuff. Just went with an Eagle AT 255/55 for the spare as that matches diameter pretty well, can be squeezed into the compartment and i leave a spare cooper and rim sitting at the transport depot if needed. The rear's do rub a bit as the suspension bottom's but i just tried one of those fender rolling gadgets that bolt to your hub and it folded the lip up a bit- seems to have stopped it gouging the tyres now.

Was then sent in for EGR blank and ECU upgrade- was tosssing up if it needed this or not after the first drive, however wrt horsepower i think it is better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. Nice improvement over what is already a pretty handy engine.

Has been out to the desert a couple of times since then. Overall a bit more refined and comfortable than the sport, but in some ways the sport suspension seems better suited to the high speed gravel and undulating roads. Vogue leaks a bit more dust, and as Graeme said, it too suffers from the dust accumulation at the top of the tailgate, however I don't think it is as bad as the Sport was. Had a bit under 100K on it when i bought it and have rattled 10K or so up on it so far with just a fuel tank sender failure so far...

Switching DSC off stiffens the shocks somewhat but as these vehicles ride close to the tall internal bump-stops (helper springs) at normal height, more bump-stop clearance virtually eliminates the rebound from having used the bump-stops on undulating gravel surfaces.

G'day all,
just upgraded the rangie for some more outback touring.

Nobody makes the look alike Clearview mirrors for our vehicle so decided to make my own. Some work involved but not much I can't see around the car now and when the van is attached. The indicators work, the heated mirrors work, the puddle lights not so much at the moment, I think I will have to put a resistor in the line because the are eagle eye leds. Discreet winch mount and winch mounted with remote for winch as well as cable attachment.

Hi All,

Long time lurker and previously owned two Disco's (Series 1 and 3). Bit the bullet in Dec last year and bought this Rangie. I wanted a Supercharged for the rear diff-lock. Since fitted Apple Carplay, Cooper Zeon tyres, battery (wow $$!) and acquired the "mandatory" Gap-IID tool. In my 6 months of ownership its had one uneventful service (main dealer) and only one "event": Adaptive Dynamics error due to broken wire on suspension strut which I manage to fix on the spot. I have done way more km's that I intended. This was only ever going to be the second car for towing my campertrailer and playing, but I find myself walking past the daily driver all the time and jumping in the rangie 'cause it is just so much nicer.

Picked this up in Perth, got it trucked over to Melbourne, have had it at home for a week and love it. We’ve always had Nissan Patrols but this feels huge in comparison. Picked up the caravan we bought, now to set them up for doing a lap of Oz, get the car up to scratch and do some preventative maintenance and replace a few items that may give us trouble on our trip, fitting new discs and front lower control arms this weekend and mechanic is fitting new front castor arm bushes and new tyres, going to try Cooper Discovery SRX 275/45 R20.

Black Edition
15th August 2021, 06:33 PM
Hi all,

Am new to Land Rover. I finally have joined the club.....
I had a rare unexpected opportunity to pick up a mint 2010 Range Rover Autobiography 'Black Edition' with brutally, thirsty 5.0 V8.
I came to realise later that there are only 700 of these produced worldwide, and only 15 delivered here to Australia.
It has Black Edition embossed on the rear seats, and several other areas of the car with rather special accents that lets you know it is not just an autobiography RR...I counted myself lucky, extremely to say the least.

This was never my original plan.
I have been waiting specifically for a 2010-2012 L322 RR TDV8 and it must come with ivory interior....I have come to know that these specifications are hard to come by.
(In fact I was so sure that I will be buying a Range Rover at some stage that I actually bought the number plates months before I got the car.... my wife and my in-laws thought I was off the rails.... thanks to YouTube and all the late nights L322 videos over and over again....)

Anyhow, this one Black Edition came up rather unexpectedly.....and unfortunately for me, it was listed on sale interstate in SA.... and during lockdown.... Upon coming upon the ad, which started as a quick glance and progressed quickly to obsessively visiting the page every hour... I knew I had to get this car.
I couldn't sleep on this one...it keep me awake that night...
Due to lockdowns and restrictions, I was unable to inspect the car in person, and I also knew this would fly off the dealership if I don't act fast, and I would regret it BIGTIME if I let this go.
The next day, I rang the dealer. I had to hold myself back as not to sound too desperate over the phone with the dealer but boy, my heart was racing.
To cut the story short, I took a plunge blindly within a few hours after a few back and forth inquiries about the car incl. service history, condition, etc.... and off I went & sealed the deal.
Finally, this car got transported over across the border to Victoria just 2 weeks ago...the wait was a killer. I survived.
Here it is ...after a week at mechanic for road worthy cert, a few touch ups on very very minor issues.
I have planned in my head for gear box flush and change, and transfer box service at the next oil change.
It is low kms for its age, mechanic has checked it and it had no timing chain issues. *phew!* (yes I know it might come my way...:/)
I sure will be servicing it regularly....

I must say, having come from Merc (AMG V8s) and BMWs, this is a whole new ride.
It is different. Good different. This car is timeless. So classic in its chassis...everything about it really.
From the driver's seat.... that panoramic view. Breathtaking. There is none other like this.
The ride is a world of its own. So NOW, I understand.
I caught the bug.
I believe THAT is a good thing.
Better late than never. Never been happier.

Know how you feel when I bought mine there was one of these for sale that made my final 2 on the short list.

Looks really good and the colours they used for paint and interior work while standard are subtle changes and work very well

Really wanted it and tried really really hard to justify to myself buying the one I found

In my case went for the diesel (ivory/jet interior with Baltic blue exterior) still wanted the one you picked up although content enough with the one I have

Here's my relatively recent addition to the stable, after a long period of desiring one I'm now using this 2006 4.2 S/C as a daily driver. I feel like this is how driveways are supposed to look:

194612

It's not perfect but it's mine, runs well but has a small issue where for some reason if you press the go pedal down a long way so you can hear the supercharger whining it uses a lot of fuel...
