View Full Version : Nearly had a heart attack!

I noticed that a kookaburra had come strangely close to the house.

I went into the study and grabbed my camera bag got out the 70-200 and as I did I heard it rattle!!

My instant thought was OMG I have broken it, ironic as I asked Ian to call house insurance to ask if they would insure my gear...at the time they only insured the camera body as I need to call them back with all the lens details that I have

I took off the front cover and glass went everywhere.:( it was the clear filter I put on for protection. last time I was off road it must of been to much for it...

I put the lens on and it wasn't behaving right...my god I started to panic again. then I took it off and put it back on fired off a few shots and all seems to be ok.

The pic looked ok and I looked at it in LR in 1:1 mode and everything looked reasonably sharp.

So lesson learnt here....I guess I need to start traveling with my hard case when off road now not the soft one..and leave clear filters off until I need to use the lens.

I already nocked my D80 2 times, once on a rock when I slipped and another when I dropped it from about 50cm height, both times in its case - soft case but plenty padding. I too thought OMG!!!

gets your heart racing hey:D

Still I would for go the body over my lens if something had to break the lens is worth 2.5 times more than the body

mmm, last nights photo shoot uncovered a hot pixel (green pixel) on my LCD screen... luckily this seems to only be an LCD prob and not a sensor problem!!!

Will just have to live with it until I get a D3 :angel: (in 10 years time)

I know of a guy who had just changed his lens while standing on the side of a river. He was shooting away when his toe nuged a "rock". So he wouldn't trip he gave it a bit of a kick and it landed in the river. Yup, not a rock but his 70-200 VR f2.8 lens. They don't swim..... :eek:

Put you lens back into the bag :D

I had some dust on my sensor and bought a Giottos Rocket-Air pump. Luckily for me that the pump was good enough to remove all dust specs off the sensor.

Got the dust whilst changing lens on the beach with a slight breeze. Something to remember when changing lenses is to be aware of the environment your doing this in :angel:

Just don't leave it laying about in the kitchen. I've heard stoies of them being used as turkey baster by accident. Kind of makes your sensor worse next time you go to use it... :o
