Just noticed that there are a number of extended warranty threads around lately
And I thought I would ask the question out of curiosity
Has anyone ever had there warranty period extended by Land Rover themselves? not just talking the latest cars here either I mean has anyone be it a 200tdi all the way up to a D3

See my previous:
Allianz warranty (http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-d4-rrs/96485-buy-extended-warranty-not-4.html#post1162650)
When I paid the deposit for a new Puma earlier this year I was told I can take up an extended warranty so long as it is before the 3 years runs out - cost then was $1700.
I was also told that this would be exactly the same as the existing Land Rover warranty.

Thanks Milky but that doesn't answer my question....I know about other extended warranty's I was only asking if Land Rover had ever granted an extension to anyone:)

Hi Dullbird.
I bought a Td5 Defender new in 03 and towards the end of the original 3 years LRA offered me the extra year for about 90 bucks from memory. It was not completely the same as the original in that it didn't cover the parts but they would still recover it if things went wrong.... and they did! In Newman the TPO gave problems, it would tick over all day but during accelaration it would miss and pop and occassionally the engine cut out completely. LRA offered a flatbed rescue to Karratha or Perth (complete with camper) and luckily we opted for Perth as it took nearly 3 weeks to arrive in Perth.
Wasn't LRA or the RACWAs fault but the truckies couldn't have cared less but immediately I complained a truck was hired in Hedland to pick it up from Newman.
LRA sent us a cheque to cover expences and I had the part replaced by an after market "expert" but wish I hadn't as apparently it would have been changed for free by the main stealers... can you believe that?
Alan.

so was that an extended warranty you actually had with them or did you just extended the land rover assist package...Land Rover assist being that they will pick you up if you break down and take you to the nearest dealer.??

I've worked for a couple of different manufacturers & the concept of what a warranty claim was, can differ.
Mc Culloch chainsaws had a 12 month warranty, however quite a number of claims were knocked back as " fair wear & tear".
Simpson appliances would often do a pro rata deal IE if a fridge had a major malfunction after 3 years, they would replace it for an agreed price- usually calculated on life expectancy 7 years, so 3/7th taken off the cost.
I heard a KIA ad on the radio today 5 years or 500,000 klm warranty. I wonder what they would do for a 450,000 klm car thats under 5 years old & the transmission is knackered??

Haven't heard of any. I asked my dealer the same question and they said the only extended warranties are offered by insurance companies - because it is essentially insurance against ongoing failures. I'm sure if Land Rover offered the extended warranty at all, in any form, they would be flogging it to all of us like crazy and the aftermarket warranty insurance option simply would not exist.
One of my main reasons for choosing to take out the extended warranty insurance is the fact that any replacement parts on the vehicle are only covered up to the end of the standard factory warranty period. That means that whilst you may exit the factory warranty with a whole lot of newer parts on your vehicle, they aren't essentially covered even a few months on if they also fail.

I assume as they weren't covering parts Dullbird, (again this is from memory which is getting a bit dodgy these days!) it was just the LR Assist which as it turned out was well worth the cost.
It was a toss up between that and RACWA cover and I thought I'd go with LRA as the other seemed to be a bit vague when I asked exactly what they covered.
Doesn't sound as if a lot of the so called warranties are worth having so it's a matter of hoping anything which may go wrong will do so within the period covered by LR.
Oh dear, after reading another thread where people (including you Dullbird) described the love they have for their Defenders despite the problems some have had, I nearly rushed out and bought a new Defender.... but after reading some of the others experiences maybe I'll just wait a while.:D
Alan.
PS. I have a mate who has one bought about 2.1/2 years ago and has nothing but praise for it and the stealer as well!!!!!:o
