New Freelander 1 owner

Hey guys, just about to take ownership of a 2002 td4 freelander and I can't wait. It's our second 4wd and probably won't see too much off road action as I already have a jeep for that (sorry). Just wondering if there is anything in particular I should look out for? Thanks and I'm looking forward to enjoying it!

Get the depression control valve filter changed Part number LLJ500010. It's basically a breather for the crank case. they usually never get changed because there is no LR service interval for it and not a lot of people know about it.
When blocked it causes turbo failure. the filter is under a cover between the air filter and injectors for number 3 and 4 cylinders. BMW say filter should be changed every 80000km but I change mine at 40000km.
Also check the Viscous coupling unit in the tail shaft. these can seize and either damage the Intermediate Reduction Drive unit or rear diff.

A tell tale sign that it is blocked, is oil coming out of the dip stick tube... However, if it isn't noticed quickly, it is usually followed by turbo failure!

Thanks for the info guys, will definitely check those things out when I get it. How costly is the VCU to replace? It's done 115 klms but its still I'm pretty good nick. It sounds like it's pretty critical to keep tyres the same tread depth on all corners too...
