Hey there guys....!!!!
I am very very excited!!! I recently purchased an ARB air locker for the rear of the rangie... but i had a problem!! I hate and i mean HATE those stupid switches ARB give you, they dont fit anywhere in a P38!!! they look tacky!!!
My solution!!! Think Globally!!! I remember being told that the p38 came out in europe in a manual, so i wanted to look at a "low range switch", I check one out and GUESS WHAT!!!! there is room for it!!! It has The perfect graphic!!!
So i went to british off road and asked to order one, knowing that there would not be one in Aus (due to it being for a european spec), THERE WAS ONE IN AUS!!! so then not to get ahead of myself and knowing p38 prices....$150, no! $100, NO......$30 delivered!!!
AND HERE IT is...( not fitted yet)!!!!
Soon to fit my own rear air operated air locker!!!

that will look great Razza. Are you not going to have a "safety" switch as well?
Here's the setup in mine, with a couple of left-over switches from Hardy's short-lived cross-linked EAS experiment.

From memory, orange is the safety and green engages the rear locker. I've only used it a few times and usually do it by feel, and the sound of the air cutting in and out.
cheers
Paul.

Looks good Razza ! I didn't like the arb switches either so took the ashtray out and hid mine in there, I'd of used your switch if I knew it existed though I think ! I put my locker in the front, rear traction control already does a pretty good job imho so front was more valuable to me.
Not my photo, but mine looks identical to this - third switch is my thermo-fan override to force the fans come on.25839

Hi Paul,
What was wrong with the Cross Linked EAS experiment?

Hi Paul,
What was wrong with the Cross Linked EAS experiment?
Hi Flo - Hardy removed it before he sold the car to me... there is still a write up of it rangerovers.net. Basically, Hardy felt it too dangerous to use on road when cornering or even off-road at anything other than low speed.
I've still got most of the bits here for it. I may put it back together one day to see what I think, but I doubt it will ever become an offereing from Hard Range ;)
cheers
Paul.

Paul,
Since i broke a height sensor, i had to play with my ball valves and linked left and right springs off-road.
That and the sway bar disconnection and the P38 is a master.

Errr, ummm, sorry, I saw one of those switches on e-bay.co.uk last week and watched it simply for interest because I don't plan on diff locks yet... I did figure everyone new they existed though... from memory it sold for approx 10 GBP, so with conversion and freight your probably better off with the new one anyway! Either way, next time I'll post when I see something different or interesting!

Hey Guys,
Yeah ill be fitting the switch this weekend so ill let you know how it goes,
Hey whats the "safety switch do"? Does it dis-engage the locker? The ARB locker that i got without air is dis-engaged, so if its locked and i break an air line it unlocks. Or does it dis-engage the whole system from the battery in case of a fault?
I'm tossing up wether to use the EAS air, or fit another compressor? If i use the EAS then I will be wiring it so that when i hit that switch it will operate the solendoid ( somewhere near the air tank), if i use a new compressor i will have it set on a delay and pressure switch, so that when i hit the switch it will check there is enough pressure, if not activate the second comp and then the locker... thoughts?

Gday , hey what do your switches sit in? did you just bend up a piece of perspex?
Also I have now fitted a HRA Front Kangaroo Bar, so I no longer need my front spotlight switch (redundant) So I am going to install my rear locker switch in its place and my front locker (still to come) next to it, Ill move the rear spotlight button to the spare spot next to the cruise control on the far right ( mainly because i very rarely use it). thoughts?

I would use the EAS comp if that one is decent (rebuilt or new) but make sure you have some wires to activate it manually in case of fault. A tee directly in the EAS tank reservoir and that's it.:)

Bent a piece of thin aluminium sheet to fit the hole - I think the guy I copied used perspex - either works.

Good chatting with you this arvo and again this evening Razza.
Mate, keep the front driving light switch, even if you relocate it, as you can use it later for the spots you mount on the HRA Roo Bar, as I have on mine.
As discussed, the green safety switch on mine simply provides power to the red "activate" switch to engage the locker solenoid. Just means I have to press two switches, or to put it bluntly... knock both switches with my knee before having a cornering/steering problem :o
Air for the locker is supplied from the resevoir and pressure reduced via a regulator to approx 60PSI (from memory).
Cheers, Paul.

Hi All, FYI, Another one of these genuine RR difflock switches has appeared on UK Ebay. From memory its listed as 25GBP or best offer. Thats a bit of an expensive switch, but genuine look is a good thing I guess! Dave

Anyone ever come across one of these fitted to a P38?
It's taken me about 6 weeks, but now the question suddenly springs to mind... is this a genuine LR switch designed to drive a genuine LR Diff-Lock?
Any comments appreciated.

Hi Dave - that switch is the High/Low Range selector on manual P38a's. Never seen one in Aus, but fairly common in the UK apparently.
Cheers, Paul.

Thanks Paul, I am sure the one's advert'd in e-bay.UK are listed as diff lock switches... Ah well, if there was such a thing, I doubt I could afford a genuine LR locker anyway!!! Hoo-Roo, Dave.
P.S. Will call you tomoroow arvo about that order.

I am very interested to hear more details about the cross linking. Since it is an impressive feature on the Gen3s so I would like to have it and it seems pretty simple.
What are the pros and cons 996Turbo? After your extended experience with it. Thanks!

Oops, repeated myself from a post 18 months ago... Serves me right for using my phone while sitting in the waiting room at the docs.
Paul: Do you know what Hardy is driving now?
Glen - last time I spoke with Hardy he was driving a Triton ute for work and occasional play.
Cheers, Paul.
