After botching a fuel filter installation (I wasnt happy with where I put it, I conveniently thought of this after cutting the hose) I am looking to replace the fuel hose between the pump and carby. I have had trouble finding the original hard nylon fuel hose, but got some Italian made rubber type.
My plan is to use the rubber type as long as i can clamp it down securely over the ends.. is this a reliable setup running so close to the motor?
Also, how does one usually attach/take off this nylon hose.. heat or something?
Forgot to mention, this is for a 2.25 petrol

Yes, if it is fuel hose

I have never had to replace one, but this is how I would do it.

The idea, is that you order part number 557432 (engine A-H)/550471(J on), but I rather doubt that it is available.
Another approach would be go to a hydraulic supply place with the original plus the bit you cut out and see if they can make you one.

The best hoses I've used are the type air cooled VW's used for decades. It's petrol proof rubber with a layer of woven fabric over it.
Cars left the factory with this stuff taking fuel from the pump to the carb WITHOUT hose clips. And those motors got HOT.
Fires that old Beetles are famous for usually occurred when owners couldn't get the orig stuff. It was 6mm diameter & the nearest Imperial stuff was a bit bigger & works OK IF they put a clip on it. If they didn't things got nasty.
As long as you tell your supplier it's for fuel, you should be OK. & use hose clips if only for insurance.
