I am in the process of researching importing either some Bilstein or Koni shocks for my 2005 TD5 Defender. It is not lifted, and I don't intend to. If I go to American sites, the 2005 year is not listed, as they are not sold there. Most places only go to 97, if they are listed at all. What I am interested in is what shock will fit, and work well, without having to modify anything. Looking at Bilstein 7100, or Koni Raids. Are these too tall?

Thanks,

Ken

I think you will find that the Bilstein 7100's are made as eye connectors at both ends,which will be fine for the rear,but will require a eye/pin adapter for the front.The raids will be fine,if you can afford the price as they are manufactured in various lengths.

There are two model Raids.

Front = 90-5374
Rear = 90-5375
Both are for standard to +50mm raised suspension

Then there is a longer rear damper
90-5401 that is used for suspension 30-55mm taller than OE.
Open and closed lengths are 607mm and 391mm for this version.

All are stock bolt in.

As LowRanger said, a Billie 7100 uses a 1/2" spherical bearing/rose joint for the mountings and isn't a bolt in, the correct bolt/rubber mounted Bilstein damper for a TD5 Defender starts with B5xxxx

Thanks for that information. Now to look for some shocks overseas, and see if it is worth importing.

Cheers,

Sorry Ken, the billie part # should start with BE5xxxx
The older, Tdi ones were B46-0243 and B46-0253 but I think they've been superseded by the BE5's

I'll dig the right part number up, i should have it in a catalogue somewhere.

OK, bit of a bum steer with the above part number, that's a DII rear. :eek:

anyway, Bilstein numbers for a TD5 Defender are

Fronts BE5-6540
Rears BE5-6529

Will these suit a earlier defender 130 as well?

Garry, I'm not really sure but I don't see why not.
The only thing I can think may be different is some of the washers. (IIRC the TD5's have the pin washers on the rears welded to the axle mount, etc)

The B46-0243 and B46-0253 still come up as current too, but IMO the rears need to be re-valved for 110/130 use considering they are listed for the RRC/Disco I too.
