I finally found the chassis Number on my 1968 109 2A. I have had it for about 4 years and only just found it on the front drivers side spring hanger. I have the front end out repairing egg shaped hanger holes and rotted front chassis ends plates and was happily surprised to eventually find it.
Is it normal for one as old as this to be in this location? I thought they were meant to be on the rear passenger side.

Is it an original, genuine Rover number, or a "newly" issued number?

If I remember rightly (away from home, no reference books!) the number is where you found it on UK assembled ones. The LH rear spring hanger is the location for AUstralian assembled ones. This suggests yours was imported, either a private import or I have an idea Annand and Thompson imported some themselves.

This was an import, it has various specification to suit a customer that were not offered on Aus models.
I was researching some of its history at
