Hi All,
Posting this on behalf of a mate.
he has just picked up a 1989 RRC V8 auto to play about with. (got it yesteday)
This has a strange electrical issue, that only seems to have appeared today.
Some possibly relevant points to note.
It has an oldish dual battery system.
It runs dual fuel, Gas and petrol
It has an old alarm fitted that doesn't seem to work anymore.
Anyway the issue is as follows.
Start the car.
Turn off ignition.
Car keeps running, and all ignition lights stay on.
So we stopped it by pulling off the coil lead.
The problem also occours in a similar manner if you just turn on the ignition and then turn it off. The dash lights stay on, and the rev counter also flicks around for a few seconds before returning to zero. The radio screen also flashed randomly despite being turned off.
To turn everything off you have to disconnect both batteries when it goes back to the original state. (ie properly off) Issue is totally repeatable
He was also saying the rev counter was moving randomly when he was working on the electric windows yesterday.
What could casue this? Alternator, Earths, Ignition switch? combination of these?
Thanks!
Pete
