Well everyone's favourite screwball, Harold Scruby, is at it again.

On "Sunrise" this morning spouting about how front number plates should be reintroduced on bikes  He claims it has allowed "thousands" of bikers to escape numerous speeding fines.

In Qld at least almost all speed cameras are set up to photograph the REAR of a speeding vehicle. Is this any different elsewhere?

Harold is never one to let facts get in the way of a good story.

Next, he says, motorcyclists are 25 times more likely to be killed in a crash than is a car driver and so should pay 25 times the insurance !!!

One of the presenters askd him if that was fair on riders who do the right thing aka the majority. Harold said that wasn't a valid argument !

No you can;t tellme the news organisations don't know exactly what they are going to get from Scruby. They do, and yet they put him on there presumably to raise people's ire (seems to have worked for me today!) That's hardly good journalism. They had Scruby and the head of the police union on there. Naturally enough, no-one representing bike riders.

So I have added to my **** list for the day:

Mate, you know that journalism doesn't exist on the tabloid TV shows, it's all about shock and stir and ratings.
Watching Sunrise, TDT, ACA et al and expecting cutting edge journalism or even something without a raging bias is the same as picking up New Idea and believing it as it's in print.

Entertainment ? for some.
Journalism ? better off watching a DVD of Frontline :D

sadly there are a LOT of people who don;t have that level of higher thought and that DO take all that sort of **** as gospel ! And they (often) vote.

Regression to the mean!

Or maybe the mean I.Q. score will have to be lowered to 90 in the next few years! :(

call me the pessimist but:
1/ If the current political love for neolib theory into action continues,
2/ public healthcare gets federalised, "assessed" and normalised (aka MyHospital)
3/ then your average public ED/theatre/orthoward/rehab ward will not accept MBA retrievals as they cost so bloody much for one patient? (cost benefit analysis by bean counter)
4/Which will push bike riders towards paying for a new form of private medicine (see the US for details) which will cost 25 times as much as public hospital health which will mean Scruby wins.
5/ and then we all vote the donkeys back in to make rules for us...

What about cyclists? They don't pay ANY road tax or rego and they have to be well over-represented in road deaths per head of population......

I doubt it. The vast number of cyclists own a car or two and use their bikes part time. The dero's who ride crappy bikes around in black jackets are just as bad as drivers with no license, no rego, no brain.
