Does anybody know where to get a towbar like the one shown in this image that meets Australian Design Rules? The irritation I have with the usual towbars (eg ARB, Hayman Reese etc) that are bolted on to the chassis is that they negatively affect the departure angle as they sit below the rear cross member. The towbar shown in this picture makes use of the existing threaded bolt holes in the rear cross member that have been put there for a towbar.

There are plenty of towbars available on the internet that do not reduce the departure angle, or at least do not reduce the departure angle very much (have a look at here (http://www.roversnorth.com/store/p-5480-class-iii-receiver-hitch-defender-90110.aspx), for example). The difficulty I am having is finding a towbar like this one that also meets Australian Design Rules including having an Australian compliance plate.

Looks like the OEM LR one for the Puma. I think Hayman Reece are also making a similar style one now. Not sure if either will fit the pre-07 Defenders though.

That looks like my genuine Land Rover Australia Tow Bar rated at 3500kg and 250kg towbar download.

One presumes given that is plated as "Land Rover Australia" that it complies with the relevant Australian Standards.

I bought it from my LR Dealer.

I've seen them on pre 07 Defenders.

AFAIK the ARB towbar doesn't affect departure angle any more than the OEM one. The main reason for fitting an ARB bar in lieu of the OEM bar is to enable the fitting of a long range replacement fuel tank.

Those with the fold down rear step can keep it with the OEM bar

I've ordered one from the local LR dealer for my 90. OL will be fitting it for me next time I'm in civilisation.

It meets all Australian specs and regs and I decided to go for it after seeing it on a Puma 110. Well, that and the fact that no one in WA stocks Puma 90 equipment yet.

Apparently it's the same one that fits the Td5, but as Xtreme said, it apparently only works with standard fuel tanks.

Both LRA (through my local dealer) and Hayman Reece (via email) told me about 6 weeks back that they do not have a towbar (that meets the ADR standards) for a Puma 90. LRA advised they were developing one and Hayman Reece that they probably would do when they could get hold of a vehicle for a week. Will be interested to know how you get on.

LRA (Long Range Automotive) make a 140L replacement fuel tank that fits with the standard towbar.

How do I know ? - Just had one fitted:D
