Vehicle Driver training D3/4

Hi all,
I have seen a few of gghaggis has on youtube. As a new driver to the D3 I am still yet to uncover all her delights and wondered if there is anyone running training days specifically for these vehicles? I am not a novice and have had many 4x4's in the last 20+ years, it's just that this is unlike anything else I have ever driven. I know ULR run one every so often here in Melbourne but I wondered if anyone else runs a training day or even just a day out and about with other D3/4 owners?

Hi HedleyLamar, Don't know of any. I am booked in for the ULR training day at the end of next month. I have spoken to others that have done the same, and they say that it is well worthwhile.

Also check your local Land Rover and Range Rover clubs, I know the range Rover Owners Club of Sydney regularly run training days.

I did one through Trivett which was part of my package when I purchased my D3. I found it very worthwhile as it allowed me to get a solid feel for what the vehicle could do in a reasonably controlled situation, also and much more importantly for me it allowed my wife to drive some of the sections and experience the D3 offroad so she now has an appreciation of what can be done.

As someone new to 4wding and the D3 it was a good thing as you will be surprised at what they can do and how easily they do it.

Hedley - as Disco4SE said the dealers run regular training days (check their respective web sites) - also the Landrover Owners club of Victoria run them as well - check out LROCV's web site for details. Hope this helps. :)

The best training in Melbourne is (IMHO and AFAIK) is the LROCV programme. www.lrocv.com.au. There are occasional D3-only trips via the LROCV. Disclosure; I'm a LROCV member.

There is a difference between a Drive Day and a Training Course as the respective names suggest. There is also a difference between courses or events run by those with a vested interest in promoting the vehicle vs those who do not have such an interest. Manufacturer events are definitely designed to show off the vehicle and downplay its limitations.

I also thought of LROCV, but as a non member I didn't know if this was do-able. I have a contat in the LROCV so I might give him a call.
Specifically I really wantd to see what and how the D3 is best utilised. As I have only had a few plays myself, and a snow trip looming at the end of July, I thought getting some time in it first might be a good idea.

You must be a LROCV member to attend the training, but the cost is not great and the benefits are many other than the training. Works out at at bit less than what manys commercial courses would cost for a day.
