Hi all
Just thought I would put a few pics up of my Landy:) As you can see I'm a few days away from taking her for a test drive:Rolling: Something to look forward too!
Not sure what year it is But it's definitely late S2a. Is there away of finding out the year? maybe thur chassis number? I'm Having to make do with the parts I can source on Island as Freights pretty high.:(
But luckily there is a number of wrecks laying around:cool:
As you can see I'm putting a Salisbury in the rear. Ive a holden 186 to go in at this stage, But if i can find an Adapter plate there is a 253V8 sitting under the bench:twisted:
Will try and keep a few pics coming thur if anybodys interested:unsure:

I now know the age of my Wagon. It's a 1968 model. I'm now in the process of tracking the history of it on the Island! Which is proving to be harder than I thought:( Anyhow will keep working on it:) Will post some more pics soon:D

Crikey yes! You're flying. I'm in the middle of doing much the same work on mine, and I'm hoping to have it finished (finished? When are they ever "finished"?) before I retire.

I just hope my mate who's shed it's filling doesn't read me saying that.....

Thought it was about time for an update

Things have slowed a little over Xmas New Year!! period Plus it,s been a wee bit "HOT"
Still working on the firewall This has been a major!!! Lucky for mate who's an old school panel beater He has spent the last few weekends rebuilding almost half of it. Should last me for a few years In that time I hope to locate a good one on the Mainland and ship it across.......... when the better half forgives me on the amount i have already spent!!

I seem to have spent a life time cleaning up all the small parts :o
Anyway have started primming in the last couple of days. The roof was a mission as a previous owner had brush painted it!! Bonnet and interior panels have been a peace of cake "No Bog"!!
I'm using International Yacht Paint Hoping it will last [If it works in water I'm shaw it will work on land:D]

The bottom pic is of the drive shaft to the Salisbury diff Yes it is pretty short worked out at 500mm between centers:eek: so will just have to wait and see if it lasts
Will do another update soon:D

Some chassis welding this weekend.....

Looking good mate:cool:. I was wondering where you'd got to, so it's nice to see you're back onto it and making progress.
That bulkhead looks like it's going to be a fair bit of work even just to make it okay for a few years while you find a replacement. Best of luck with it.

Well being having fun this week:) The fire wall is almost finished "yeah ha" !!!
Spent this arvo mocking up making sure everything lines up. A few small adjustments tomorrow and i can then pull her back down for the big paint up:D
There was more work required on the fire wall than originally anticipated But I'm sure it will still work out cheaper than shipping a better one in. [at this stage]
Will post a few pics of the rebuilt fire wall in the next couple of days
But for now heres a few of her looking more like she should:cool:

As can be seen it's been a rather big job! Thanks to having some great mates who have dedicated a lot of there spare time so far. With a lot more hours to come
No replacement panels have been bought so far for the firewall all have been fabricated on Island! which has been a huge saving!
Both door pillars have been completely replaced. Same with both floor pans Also numerous patches have been added to hide the moth holes:cool:

Things have slowed up in the last few weeks due to work commitments
But have manged to get the fire wall bolted in place with most of fittings installed The wire loom is turning out to be a bit of a nightmare Still deciding on what I'm going to do Ether buy a new one or perceive with the old one and probably Chase gremlins until i buy a new one:eek: ............might just buy a new one

Clutch is all plumb in. With just the line from the brake master cylinder down to the junction fitting to go and she can be bleed up.

More than twelve months after cutting the first wire..................
I spent this week sorting out the wiring!! I had labeled it all But not very well!!:( [my labels had fallen off]
What a mission!!!! I'm no sparky!!
After i had thought it was back the right way! i stood back turned away shut my eyes and connected the battery.................................

Looked around to see no puffs of smoke or worse still flames!!!:D
With a smile on my face i filled the fuel tank. turned the key and watched the fuel go up thru the filter then the fuel bowl, pumped the carby and she fired into life!!:D:D
And ran sweet as a nut!!

Put a smile on my face:cool:

Cant help to much with regarding the flywheel/ clutch combo:( But somebody may/ should jump in and help you.
Radiator wise I'm using a standard 4 core landrover item. I may have to fit an electric fan if this doesn't cope to well.;)

I have a 179 in my 2A and am running a 4core G60 Patrol radiator with a thermo fanb etween the 6cyl and the cross member. Cools the holden 6 well. If you have the 6cyl layout almost any thing could fit if you run thermo fans. If you have the 4cyl layout you will have a very short list of possible radiators. i suspect the original rover could be your only option.

Finish painting the hardtop roof,
rust repair door bottoms and paint,
finish painting the rim’s,
fit all the glass,
Install the new wiring loom when it arrives in the

Have to agree on that one also John

Next day or so will post up a few pic's of the newly installed wiring loom that arrived late last week from the UK
What difference this has made i now have a fully working electrical system!! Yah
With the landed cost onto Norfork Island at $240au i think this was pretty good bargain! [when you com pair it against an Auto sparky]

Nothing was labeled but we soon manged to work it out with the good old Haynes Manual as all the wiring was colour coded to the original. Also replaced the fuse box with a new original type

So hopefully no Electrical problems for a few years........Touch Wood;)

Johnno1969

That does sound a pretty good price for a complete loom. I'm almost tempted myself....but my loom is a homemade job I came up with as a student twenty years ago trying to finish my final exams and put my Land Rover back together in time to head off on a long trip to mark the end of studies. I am kind of attached to it. It's unique, and it works.

Mind you.. a nice original one must be terrific.

Well after all the blood sweet and [a few] tears and many beers, today was the big day:D
The first drive on the road was down to the mechanics for the big check over .........passed with flying colors :) then it was a quick drive to the insurance office payed that.... then it was off to pay the Rego and pick up the plates On the way i was thinking this is going well! just then the loud pedal fell to the floor!!! doh!!! ........brokin cable
So was stuck on the side of the road for a couple of hours while this small problem was fixed.

After picking up the plates it was time for a better drive!!
Very happy the way she drives with more than enough power from the 186
Still have a few jobs to complete in good time.

For any body who is thinking about rebuilding a Landrover.....Go for it!!
This has been a great project and i have already started think about the next one!!;)

Just a couple of things to remember

1. What you estimate in the time it's going to take .... Times it by 3

2. And what you estimate for the cost ...Times it by 3

I have another Tropical roof you can have:D.........
But it's up to you on giving it a sea trial!!:Rolling:
Well, there's another project for you! With a few quick mods (including compass and rudder) it should make it. I think Zeuss might have made a kit....

As for the sea trials on the Landie ....... She's been behaving her self apart from the seized alternator, small leak in the left front hub, clutch adjustment and hand brake adjustment......... I'm pretty happy with what Ive ended up with! Still got a smile on me face!:D

Ive now done just over 200 miles in two weeks [pretty good for over here] Mind you Ive found it "Ruddy Hard" to stay out of her!!:D [can't work out why?]

Yep, I am sure those little niggles will get ironed out. It must be fun having it back together to enjoy driving it. A bit of tweaking here and there to shoo away the gremlins and you're off.

Hi all
As a few on the Aulro site know I have never sung the Holden engine shoe-in a Landy song.
Well last week I meet Neil and his family on Norfolk Island, and was warmly greeted and shown around.
He has a very nice Landy that drives well and looks better in real life than the photos in his story show.
I am a little like a stuck record in the same grove, he showed me several wrecks all with Holden donks, do wonder what happened to their 2 1/4 power plants.
If you who love a landy with a Holden want to go to a wonderful laid back place and spend time having a a beer with a Chap who loves talking Land Rovers please take the time and trouble and go and visit Neil, one of nature's gentlemen.
Yours
Ian (back_in)
