Cal's creek chaos!

[Psimpson7]

A few of us had planned an all out attempt on Cal's creek at Scenic rim.

We had along a few of the GCLRO members, and a few of the Rockhammer racing guys in a number of cars.

Driving we had, Greg in his RRC, Kelvin in his D2, Grimace in his RRC, manky in his 40series truggy, Sam in his v8 D90 and me in my td5 90. A load of other helpers were there including Dave, Rod and his son Blake, Nottie, Micka, Gregs son Brendan, and a few others.

This creek is pretty nasty! It resulted in me smashing the roof and alpine light on mine (despite using the winch to try and pull the car away from the tree), Grimace damaging a rear door and his roof, but Sam got the most damage, although he did get the furthest! He ended up breaking the front inner axle, (30spline toyota longfield), snapping the tailshaft, and breaking the rear cw+p:eek::eek:

We Need to try it again with more time!

The 40, Sams 90 and Grimace had to turn around and get back out which wasnt that easy!

My clutch took a bit of a hiding! may finally need to look at the gearing

Damn good to watch, but on first inspection of the track early in the morning, we were all not to keen to proceed with the run.
Pete was keen to at least do the first part, and then the other guys decided to follow suit.
Fair bit of damage in the end, but all the guys gave it a good go:twisted:
Damage count, broken Alpine window, bent roof, smashed in right rear door, another bent roof and sill, broken left tailight, punchured fuel tank, broken valve of tyre, leaking power steering line, broken tailshaft and front inner axle, crown wheel and pinnon, more right side guard and door damage, and l am sure a few more things l may of missed.
10 out of ten for effort, and yes the guys are looking at going back for another go, with a bit more time to recover the carnage.

Looks like you blokes had fun. Glad I decided not to take the bullet through there as I would be fighting like **** with it to be quite honest (my rangie isn't really built for creek runs of that magnitude :().

It was pretty hecktic getting Sam out once we discovered his rear crown wheel was missing some teeth :eek:

awesome night and day guys ,i enjoyed it and was extremely happy the way my D2 preformed did the first part of the creek with Greg and Pete and its awesome having the experience and knowledge of these guys around you when you driving this extreme stuff thanks guys ... then watched Sams D90 and the toyo truggy attempt further up .Will have to attempt it again when i have the exo cage ready and on the D2.

As I said, I would be keen as mustard in a vehicle with a hell of a lot less panels and glass (add a rollcage as well).

May I say still a bloody good effort to get a full bodied and regisered Rangie/Disco up there all the same :D

What a great looking weekend - bad news with the damage though.

Wish I had seen this was on - but damn had to work Sat afternoon so would not be able to make it.

Rach really wants to do a few tracks like this where a lot more challenging - hopefully there is another run at this some time this year.

That spring belongs to harleys county, he lost it doing the trail about two weeks ago.

That step up shown in that picture is the only part that I dont think is drivable (by me). It's extremely undercut even on 37" tyres.

The remainder of the track seems like a good boulder crawl :cool:

The exit of this first section also looks pretty narly, keen to give it a whirl again sometime, dont have to worry about the panels on the driverside so much anymore :twisted:

He went out with Sam, and they had to winch both step ups. Other than that it was a breeze for both I beleive.

Where are some videos of the boys doin the first section? I missed it all, as I was not there yet and then when I finally was there, I had to redo some spring retainers and save a brake line before it gone torn clean off. So am keen to see some footage.

obvioulsy my front long side is already broken by the time of the vid, must have done the rear CWP oh yeah and twisted both rear axles just after this:(

i put it all down to the mechanic 'doing me a favour' and replacing my front radius arm bushes with stock ones the day before the trip as they had 'holes in them':mad: making the front end work like a nissan and not getting any traction:mad: oh well got me some new holey bushes to go back in now, just gotta get new rear axles, CWP - maybe cryo'd this time, and new front long side!! and maybe get some real driveshafts built:cool:

such a pity to only get this far into an awesome track, and the main reason i wanted to go is a shakedown run for this weekend (a social hardcore outerlimits trip) and do the second part of the creek, the bit i haven't driven:(
