Defender 110, less than one week old just rolled over to 500km.

About 6km from home I noticed the centre diff lock light was on. Stopped and checked to see if the lever had moved over to the left. No, all seemed OK.

I can move the lever across and up to low and pull it across to the right and back down to high. Tried this several times.

Drove home with light on. Left the car stopped for over half an hour and tried again. Still no good.

Called the salesman who only this morning called me to see how happy I was - and I was!

He couldn't help - call service department. All gone home. They will call me tomorrow.

I felt like posting this in the rant and rave section [bawl]

Most likely just a loose sensor. My TC light comes and goes and it pleases.

Now that is an interesting light:angel:

I have the opposite problem. Although diff does lock, the dash light does not come on. Faulty switch. One is on order. Perhaps yours is also faulty, stuck in on position.

Thanks for the positive replies.

I am not really that worried, I think it must be something simple like the switch. just wanted to vent.

Dammed annoying though.

heres the trick ,,,,,,,, find something that annoys you about the vehicle ,,be it a dent ,squeek, minor fault ,,,learn to live with it and bugga all else will go wrong,,,,,,,,;),

try to obtain perfection and you will allways be fixing/tweaking something.............

sound mad .......works for me!!!:)

Mine lights up the moment I move the little stick to the left whilst the TC is still in neutral.

I'm guessing that the switch doesn't actually signal that the CDL is locked.... only that the gearstick is in the zone. This from memory is different to the Disco which required positive engagement before the light came on and conversely when dissengaging.

Just got a call from LR Service tech.
Known problem with a new gearbox.

Just drive in reverse - high range.

By the time I had backed down my drive (about 40 foot) the light had gone out.

Locked the diff, light came on. Put it out of diff lock and light still on. Drove in reverse and light went out.

Guy said it would cure itself after a bit of use. Seems the tolerance is too close when new.
