the good guys at M R did an exchange unit for me......

now that i have one fitted, does anybody actually or has anybody actually adjusted one

apart from removing the grease nipple, making something to fit in the slot and un-staking the stakes i don't recon to many members would ever adjust them

would it be easier to remove the plate and adjust off the car?

man what a difference the new ball joint has made.

i had a close look at the old one, the rubber boot was gone and would have been less than 1mm of movement in the ball joint

They are pretty durable !!
I've transferred one to a more recent County & reckon its done 25,000 klm of rough roads & much more on smooth roads & never had to adjust it.

Weeds, mine is in there now getting one fitted, so I hope that they work out to be a good thing.
Not being a smartarse here, just curious, but for what reason would one have to adjust the ball-joint? Is it to allow for taking up the slack caused by wear?
The simple fact that it is greasable has to be a positive thing.

The original ones flogged out pretty easily in mud, from memory they are descended from - and identical to- 70's Rangies. I believe the adjustment is for wear, but they seem ( if they are still made the same as 10 years ago) to take the punishment pretty well.

The Maxi Drive rear ball joint in my Defender has done around 250,000ks of very hard work - adjusted once - well the adjuster might have moved! still going strong
