yep, went fine...
i have a first generation 3g iphone so no real big benefits for mine but it is still going which is a minor miracle in itself considering the hiding it cops.

Only a couple of dealers apps, and from the UK too (from memory)

A colleague at work has a first gen iPhone, and after the upgrade it now takes a few seconds to open every app. Used to be instant.
He called Apple support, and apparently they have been bombarded with unhappy upgraders, and you can't roll it back.
If it was still under warranty he could take it to an Apple shop and get it swapped for another phone of same model with the earlier OS.

I'm happy with the upgrade, especially the folder function.
However it took hours to download and install. I wouldn't have thought it was that big a change.

No issues on my 3G, other than the iTunes download/upgrade, then the iOS4 download, and then the 40+ minutes for the upgrade to happen. Love the folders, hate the email. At least it survived it. Now if I could only be off of Voda's network!

I have a 3G and the speed is the biggest issue - its painfully slow and now a real PITA.
I wonder if they will introduce 4.0x that upgrades back to 3.1.3!! Id do it tomorrow if they did!
Have refrained from upgrading the mrs' 3GS just in case that becomes a tortoise overnight!

I have to agree, my 3g is now slow, well not really slow but the menus and screen changes dont change smoothly any more, scrolling is jumpy etc and button presses are laggy,, typing is painful now too.

Haven't noticed any issues on my 3GS. Yes download took for ever but upgrade went without a hitch (other than losing my contacts but a quick update had them back again).
Seems to work smoothly and no speed issues. Haven't had a good play yet though and as yet to find the folder function.

My Mini and iOS4 don't get on together. My blue-tooth wont connect.
Strangely my iPhone and the D4 are now happy with each other.
Sigh....!

Thanks - I just lol'd my pants in the middle of Starbucks :p
btw I'm in New York atm and the Evo is being pushed heavily here by Sprint. I'm a massive Apple fan, and love the iPhone (I have a 3GS), but sometimes when I walk past the Apple store on 5th Avenue I want to hurl a brick through their nice shiny glass-enclosed store. It's still (often) painfully glitchy :s I'm sure a lot of other fanboys secretly laughed a little at Apple's expense with the antenna issue... The Evo looks nice too!

Well I've updated and apart from having to remember my login details for various items I haven't noticed a huge difference yet...

My daughter bought a new iPhone 4 so she gave me her old 3G yesterday. She also complained about it being very slow after she upgraded to iOS4.
I restored the older 3.1.3 OS last night and she tells me it's faster.

An update for Skype has been released for the Smartphones, the iPhone 4 version allows for video calls. Not sure if the Android or other versions do yet.

If you upgrade it back to v 4.2.1 and turn off spotlight search in general settings that speeds it back up a lot!

I have reverted to 4.2.1 to allow me to turn off cellular data which was costing a small fortune. I'll check this spotlight thing out. Thanks.

Which cellular data output are you referring to?

Hi David, I don't have a data plan with my mobile plan and I noticed I was getting hit for $2/Mb of data downloaded by some apps I had installed, e.g., A-GPS data, Google adverts, apps that wanted to connect to the internet, etc., all via the 3G mobile network.
Turning off Cellular Data in Settings has stopped that. The GPS is slower to get a lock, some apps don't work properly, etc. but I can live with that but it's saving money as I'm not using the mobile network to download or upload data.

I updated my 3GS to OS4 and at first it ran like crap...then they brought out another little update to OS4 and it runs great now. Definitely do it!
