Snowflake in information screen?

When setting off early in the morning the other day, after about 2 mins driving there was the "bong" noise, looked for a warning light but none came on. Then noticed a snowflake symbol next to the exterior temp figure. (It was 5 degrees C and foggy. The "EXT" had been replaced by the snowflake. Everythink was normal and tha symbol disappeared after 3 or 4 mins.
Question. Does anyone know what it means (a seach of the manual proved fruitless)

This is your "ice on road" warning which bongs and stays on when you hit 5 degrees C! I had mine to minus 1 at Uluru a few years back - bet a few owners here have seen alot lower than that!

I think that 5 degrees means it is cold and when the snowflake comes up on the screen means that it is ****** cold!

As noted, it is a warning that the road might be icy.

Yes, that bonging is the "its cold" or "might be cold" announcement that as a concession for us here in Canada seems to be set one degree lower, (at +4C). The bong goes on everytime one starts the 3 from about September to May. Actually I got some bongs last week as it got a bit less than spring like for a few days.

Apparently the bonging cannot be turned off or the temperature threshold set lower as it is an EU thing. My Wife's 05 4Motion Passat does the same thing - you put up with it or buy American, it would appear.

In Oz, I suppose you could say it tells you that the AC may not be required for the morning.

Funny bbyer, but you might be surprised at how warm it is not at times.

My old RR would bong the ice warning regularly when heading out west, going over Cunningham Gap would cause it to bong on many occasions.

Also, when I picked up my 08 RR, in Melbourne, I had a bit of a chuckle when they showed me the heated steering wheel and I informed them I live in sunny Queensland.

It’s surprising how many times I’ve now used it when driving around SUNNY Queensland.

Well it does get b.cold down here.

I am spending my first winter in Sydney in over 20 years. Had an emergency call out @ 03:30 hrs the other morning and whilst getting the vehicle out of the garage, thought that something was wrong as the temp display was showing weird... now I know it wasn't !

As to the A/C, well the first button I hit after starting the vehicle was the a/c preset which also turns on the demisters.

(Thankfully I will be heading north in August for a trip to Cairns, continuing on to the northern hemisphere for a few weeks.)

Well it was the early seventies, and I have only been as far north as MacKay, but it did seem warm up there. It was however the cane burning season.

The real reason I remember MacKay is that I was staying at I guess what would be called a guest house, (rather than a formal hotel). The unlocked honour fridge full of beer and the like really made a postive impression on me. I have still not forgotten that forty years later.

Unlocked honour fridges are common-place in Australian motels even today as a means of ready sustenance for weary travellers - they are a necessity here (indeed a life saver) and are akin to St Bernards in Europe with whiskey kegs... :p

However, some of the larger hotel chains (predominantly from the USA) have now devised all sorts of sophisticated ways to track what you're doing in a bar fridge! :mad: I once took a bottle of beer out of a bar fridge at the H....n hotel, looked at the label, looked at the bar fridge price list, then put it back and went down the street and bought a six pack for the same price! Next day at check-out the bottle had been charged to my account because their system had detected it had been removed the fridge - but it didn't detect it going back in again!

BByer, my D3 actually does "bong" at 4 degrees C...not 5...I checked (!)

I noticed the 'snowflake' on my display this morning and wondered what it was. For the record, my display read 4 deg but I had to scrape frost off the windscreen so I think it was a little cooler...

Yes, that is how the reminder appears to be programmed - when the temperature is +4C or colder, the bong occurs.

That is why here one can get the bong every time one starts the 3 everyday for about eight months a year. After awhile, while you hear it, you just donot notice it.

I do however find myself looking down on occasion just to make sure the bong was from the temperature display and not something else - in that sense, it is a bit of an annoyance.

It was a cool 29c her today, though it did get down to 16 during the night.

Ah, the cat's bum warning lamp.

Can be one of three things depending on sensor-trip combinations and intensity of the warning light.

It sounds like Land Rover deleted the bong noise on the 2008 and newer models?

It would be interesting to hear from others, but they would not know how lucky they were, (but you do).

My wife's 2005 4Motion Passat does not bong - just gives the display warning at +4C so maybe Land Rover is learning.

I wonder if the no bong feature is something the Black Box Faultmate people can reverse program back into the earlier models. That is what is kind of unique with computerized vehicles - sometimes the upgrading can be helpful.

No bong on my 2008 D3. I thought it just meant it was cold enough to snow !!
