Just a question regarding the gear lever in our 2002, 110 Extreme. the vehicle has 140k on the clock and is like new in all aspects. Since owning it for the last few months i was aware of a vibration in the gear lever at around 80KPH in 4th. It seems to stop if i hold the lever to either side.
I am curious to know if this is a common trait. The oil was changed in the box 2 weeks ago and the old oil was clean and there no metal on the magnet. The box is tight and no period noises at any revs. Could it be the spring mechanism at the base of the lever.
Anyway as i asked is this common. Thanks guys.

My County has a similar problem in that the gear lever has an annoying rattle, but as soon as you touch it the rattle stops  I now tend to drive with my hand resting on the gear lever as the noise does get annoying after awhile.

I'd be interested to know if there is a fix for this too.

Seems we might be the only ones with the problem. I am convinced the problem is external of the box and not internal. Anyway lets see if others post. Surely someone has had the same thing and fixed it. Thats what this site is all about.

Hi my 130 does same but worse with severe driveline vibration, common to some post 2007 130's.So suggest you check driveline, balance, uni joints, output shaft bearings etc. Cheers.

Jerry, What have you got , a 4 or 5 speed county, if it is a 4 buy a new one of these R622387. Thats a nylon washer that goes under the gearstick cover. That usually cures your problem.

No this is extremely uncommon.
It's usually through the entire rev range.

The solution is to turn the key to the " off " position.

Thanks for the info Bearman, my county has the LT95 four speed box so I'll try the new washer ;)

My understanding is if you park your car on fairly flat ground on a life firing range for the R.A.A.F. just prior to the red flags being posted this in some instances can cure such car issues

New to LR's, so not sure how the Shifter/Transmission correlation is in them. When I was learning to drive in a VW Beetle, I was told that resting my hand on the gear lever when not shifting caused the syncros to wear pre-maturely. Just did a quick google and some other sites say that it could damage the gears themselves in some models, not just the syncros.

Please take this with a grain of salt in regards to LR's, I know next to nothing about their parts, systems, or engineered designs.

Cheers,
Ryan

I am laughing really, hahahahahah. I have always liked the way the answers come in but, but, but I really want to know what the issue is or if there is an issue. I am suspecting its just noise and I am thinking its common. I hope I am right. Thanks.

ours is the same age as yours.. and has vibrations on the stick all through the rev range.. its especially bad at about 60k's in 3rd pretty sure the dual mass flywheel is a bit out. rev it harder and it smooths a bit.

we also get a very deep vibration at lowish revs as the turbo picks up that rattles the door panels a bit.

if i hold the gearstick... its always vibrating.. i dont consider this particularly unusual given the agricultural nature of the gearbox...
