Folks,

on the PUMA on the drivers side wing top is a plastic cover no vents and on the passenger wingtop is a vent, firstly what do both of these vents do ?

and secondly there is some really cool grills that people put on to the passenger side and maybe the driver side as well ?

do these serve a purpose besides looking good ?

Well, they've been there since the 90 and 110 came out back in the early eighties, so they aren't exclusive to the Transit engined version.

The passenger side one is the air intake fro the ventilation system, the drivers one is blanked off as that is the side used for the ventilation intake on LHD vehicles. ;)

Ahh,

now there is some cool grills available for the air intake side, which make more sense as when it rains water just goes straight in to the ven where as the others sit up like a head on the sfari snorkels ?

May serve to keep water out as well as look really good ?

There's a drain in the bottom of the plenum (that does block up, you need to check and clean it periodically otherwise the fan motor gets full of water) but I've never bothered with a scoop.

There are scoops available, sold as 'snow covers' overseas to replace the egg crate grille.
Have a look in something like the Bearmach catalogue.

Yeh thats one of the brochures I saw it in they look good !! to clean it out do you just screw the egg crate grill off to get access ?

Too look symetrical you could probably put a "snow grill" on the false plate side as well.
....so many extras are available to indivudualise ones Defender !!

On my defender I put the gps antenna under the D/S plastic plate..

Worked excellent, was protected from the elements, and was stealth so didnt advertise its presence.

now thats a good idea !! so it not need to be elevated and could be hid under the dummy vent guard for LHD cars ?

I put a set of Hi-Force grills on mine, very happy with the results. They actually flow air. They seem very well made and look a lot better than the originals. I see they advertise them in the RovaCraft parts book but don't know at what price.
