Missed out on the AULRO covers so got one from Defendoor UK (~$11AUD, arrived in 3 days).

Anyway was thinking how to secure to vehicle and came up with this.

26488

Its 20mm PVC pipe. Made a cut long ways down pipe with hack saw. Used flat head screw driver to partially open the split to fit onto cover.

26489

Then also using flat head screwdriver partially opened split to fit PVC pipe to raised edge of the filler recess.

26490

The cover stays open when in the open position and does not interfere when filling up.

When closed cover sits flush.

26491

I experimented with larger diameter piping and this also worked. But I found the 20mm to be a neater fit.

I originally cut the longest length possible but found it difficult to fit to filler recess. So made it shorter.

Very secure to filler recess and no drilling...ohhhh yeahh. :) Enjoy.

I just got the plain one from here:

DEFENDOOR fuel filler recess cover for Land Rover Defender (http://www.defendoor.co.uk/)

But if there is another group buy with the AULRO logo I am keen!!

Nice one, I wonder if the summer time temp will affect the "springiness' I suppose it wont fall off even if it does! might copy that.

I used 2 stick on clips and a piece of cord after I left one of my defendoors at a filling station

After weekends playing in mud I find the clay/mud slosh from spinning wheels (and hitting big mud pools:)) would end up in the fuel recess. I would then high pressure hose out.

And in the summer months I often go to the Murray where a lot of the fine dust always ends up in the fuel filler recess.

The cover helps to keep some of this stuff out and lessens the chance of foreign material going into fuel tank when filling up.
