its a series II they dont have the key start theres a seperate button you have to push to start it, it should be down on the firewall on the drivers side above the highrange 4wd knob.

If it's a 1970, it should be a 2a with keystart............. shouldn't it?

Could be a loose connection behind the dash, or faulty switch.

yeah mates its a key start series 2a but was wondering wat would be the easiest way around it cause they wires are a mess in the dash and the motor

If the wiring is in a mess the most likely problem is that the connections to the ignition switch are incorrect.

Get hold of a wiring diagram (from the workshop manual) and check the connections both to the switch and to the solenoid. (And make sure the "start" wire is connected to the solenoid) It is possible that the solenoid itself is faulty - these are readily available (I got one from Repco) - and this can be checked by operating the solenoid by a wire from the live terminal to the start terminal. It is also possible that the ignition switch is faulty.

hi

if the wires are a mess it might be in your best interest to start over with them so you no what and where things are.
