Singleton Automotive use to be good, don't know now,

MJK discovery is very good and usually will take about a week to do it but you will have to wait 3 or so weeks to get it in.

The are located at Belingen so it is a fair distance away,

There is also All 4 by four in Newcastle, they would only be a few hours away,

the phone book would be your freind on this one,

Good luck in getting it done soon though,

depending on what subject you are doing you should be fine,

I did Design and Tech and I found that is why you keep a journal.

This is were you put in your issues like this one, and the reasons

good luck with it

You'll have a lot of trouble finding someone to do an F head motor. What you need is an old retired bloke who does it to get a few dollars.

I had a 1595 cc engine done by LW Parry in Arncliffe (Sydney) and I supplied the replacement pistons, rings, bearings and gasket kits and it still cost me something like $4,000.00.

When dealing with old engineering like this, something that is different from Fords and Holdens, I feel that you have to find all the parts yourself, and provide the machinest with the workshop manual to get all the correct data and tolerances from.

I always rebuild all my engines myself. I send to the machinest a bare block, crankshaft, and bare rods. They then only machine the parts to the size of the new bearings and pistons that I provide them. I also send to them the bare head, so they can grind the valves, and cut new valve seats. I then assemble the engine myself over a few days. I have no formal training, only practical experiance. The workshop manual, especially with Land Rover, will show you what to do every step of the way.

This needs to be rebuilt, installed and up and running in the next 4 or 5 weeks???

I guess if worst comes to worst you could degrease, clean, spray and install before its all due.

I'm with Aaron on this one. I don't trust anybody but myself when assembling motors or anything mechanical... Contemporary mechanics are hopeless ... training is slack these days .. TAFE system is a absolute JOKE . Have a go and youll find its easier than you think....

But having said that ...Anyone in Melbourne.. SAMECO in Dandenong are excellent with older motors.. they are older guys who do series 1 motors ...

I bought an old lathe recently ... it's saved me heaps ...make your own bits and pieces .. valve guides .. reface valves ...millions of jobs can be done on an old lathe ....

Good onya Mike very true.

What I can say about L W Parry's in Sydney is that they are a company that is basically an in family arrangement. Yes they did take on senior employees as partners and the family changed but it is still in "family" hands but 3 generations later. They are one of the few engineering firms that still teach their apprentices how to build white metal bearings something that disappeared from TAFE teaching many years ago. They have also re-built entire engines from veteran vehicles with only a block and a few photos. But as always that sort of work costs time and money. Yes they also do work on Ferrari's and Lamborghini's.
