Hello everyone :)
I am on the hunt for a tray for my Defender 110 ute. Steel tray would be great, doesnt have to be in the best condition, but has to be somewhere in VIC, ACT or NSW. Either free to good home or reasonably priced please :) hoping someone could help me out?
And a quick update on my ute... i posted a thread a couple of months ago asking for advice and have just started on my modifications :) she is getting new tyres shortly - either mickey thompson mtzs or maxxis bighorns. Finally got cd player, speakers, and spotties hooked up, just waiting to get a uhf and aerial.
trying to decide whether or not to custom make scrub bars and sliders or buy them from bruce davis performance - any opinions?
getting diff guards and bash plate in the next month or so, then its out into the bush i go!

Hi,
I got my tray (steel rails, wooden flooring, no sides) for $500 from a wrecker.
Had to modify it a bit to match the D130 mounting points to be able to use it.
Still some more modifications to make to get it where I want it.
Just an option you may want to explore.
cheers

not a bad idea :) would be interested in giving it a go, except up here nobody has a tray the right length and width for my ute... am considering just cutting the box off and keeping the steel tray underneath for a while

10 minutes with an angle grinder and your dogs will have a big new kennel :D
If you can get the scrub bars and sliders made up by mates or make them youself, do it, save your money for tyres and other important things.
Get the front diff guard, I wouldn't worry too much about the rear yet, the rear is a pretty substantial piece of metal already.
Get your tyres and start driving and you'll soon find out whats important...I'm sure you remember how I came to need sliders :D stupid trailbike track...

Sorry, don't know anyone that can make sliders, one member here supplied me with CAD drawings which I have to convert and send back to him, then its time to learn to weld I suppose. Actually, Banjo made some nice ones, I was meant to buy some from him but totally forgot (Sorry Banjo!)
Yep, still good for Sunday, no other passengers...will let you know when i'll get to yours once I know...

You may find lightening your rear end-removing box- will have adverse affect on off-road articulation with rear end lifting a wheel easier (sway bar won't help either if you've got one on rear) I find this with my light alloy tray (I need it light as I sometimes load past GVM), often thought it might be worth carrying 300kg+ balast, or fitting diff-lock ,to solve this (still working on excuse to buy diff lock). Also, as width of tyres increases & tray gets lighter = lighter footprint & less traction

Hi mate, yeah I know they can be a bit more hazardous when the back end is light, used to travel a lot with an ex in a holden rodeo and saw how that thing travelled....
I wont be going for an alloy tray, it will definetly be a steel tray, preferably drop side. She does have an OME sway bar on the rear but that will be coming off as soon as I start 4wding a bit more. Either way, there are going to be 2 spare tyres, a large tool box (bolted to the floor and tyres have a mount that fixes them to the floor) and other camping paraphernalia in the back as well as a dog box and 2 dogs, so hopefully she will have enough weight to keep most tyres on the ground most of the time!
Diff locks are a dream at this stage sadly :( shes got a 2 inch lift kit that will be going on at some point when i have time, so that will be a fun endevour :)

If your looking for a "less expensive" rear diff lock send lucky8(us landy company) an e-mail but only if you have a rear salisbury. The detroit I got of him fit easily and was about 1/2 the price of the local supplier and shipping was pretty cheap as well! Lucky8 Llc. - Take the road less traveled...
