Under Bonnet Lighting

Bought a 21 LED light at the last LRC ACT meeting and got around to fitting it on Saturday.

A couple of cable ties hold it in place, no drilling required.

The wires are tucked away neatly inside the reinforcing channel and then attach to the washer line.
Negative wire is earthed to the body near the fuse box.
Bought a switch from Super Cheap, drilled a hole and put the switch in here near the RH bonnet catch... it sits well clear of the bonnet when closed. You can also see the 5A inline fuse holder near the battery.

Paul,

Was LR thinking you would not be looking under the bonnet at night! No original under bonnet light.

Neat installation.

You could get an alarm type switch on the earth wire, that way it will only work when the bonnet is open.
I've put an additional 'original' lamp in mine (88 Classic), but does not really give enough light to work by, but then I only open the bonnet to show jap drivers anyway!

I like the manual control of the light. My car tends to spend a lot of time with the bonnet open, by choice not necessity ;)

I think the couple of RRC's I had years back both had under bonnet lights, and I know my old Rover SD1 had two of them.

You could easily swap over the incandesent lights to LED's to improve your lighting.

Paul, to improve the under bonnet lighting would only play into the hands of the knockers... now they say 'cant fix much by that light' and I can say ... haven't need to!
But I agree, I think I'll do something to improve the light, and add a off switch so the light does not need to be on when the bonnet is raised.
I fitted a couple of those strips to the rear window, they do a great job for camping.
PS call me if you have not done any good with the bump stops etc, I think I know someone who may be able to help.

Thats nice and neat and just a little bit spooky Paul...

Today I bought another 2 of those cheapie old fashioned ciga plug (and clamps too I think) in flouro lights (with stands and hooks on) for $7 each at Bunnings. Mainly because they turned out to be our best light source while camping in the old jayco on the mighty Murray at Echuca last week.

I think I'll grab another couple tomorrow and do a similar fit out to our cars. I'll bet the bloody switches will probably cost me more than the lights!!! :D

P.S. Having trouble talking to that bloke in the plastics business... he's not responding on the mobile number I have from last time. From memory the company name was Hook Plastics... anyway I will be looking him up again tomorrow. Will let you know.

Blood of course (mostly my own)... what does yours run? :p

Well, actually it's probably the red coolant I use. It's dry, so not sure whether it's from when I put the hoses on or it has been weepeing.

Another thing to check...
