View Full Version : Drivers Door Window Mechanism Broken

My drivers door window still works but when it gets to the top it does not stop cleanly.

It makes an awful clunking sound as the motor tries to push it up further.

Upon dismantling the door to take a closer look, I have discovered the galvanised steel plate that holds it all together is badly fractured and probably about to snap altogether (see pic).

It allows enough movement for it to think it is still moving up.

Looks like I will need to replace that plate in order to fix.

Andrew_e ..... looks like another parts order coming your way.

I broke a couple of these on my last P38 and got sick of the silly price for a new one. Had a mate weld the old one back together and it lasted the life of the car.

Cheers, Paul.

Yes i agree with Paul.

Drill those pop rivets out take the unit out and weld the sucker up, i did mine 3-4 yrs ago and no problems since.

Rivets can be replaced with bolts also (as seen on my previous P38)!

There may be more breakages where you can't see them behind the motor mount. You might want to check out this link (http://www.aulro.com/afvb/p38a-range-rover/119807-fixing-front-window-regulator-p38.html):
