Hi Guys,

We're now in the sunny/rainy/sunny Seychelles – they call them the 'islands of paradise'. It must be, because the radio station is named 'Paradise FM'. The bus service is 'Paradise transport'. But there's no milk, so I have to take my coffee black!! And it almost got down to 20deg the other night – how we suffer in paradise!

Internet is rather sporadic around here. Seems to work only on a full moon if you walk in a circle backwards chanting “Kumbaya” in Creole. Bit like Western Power really.

There are only 4 cows on the island. I suspect that the rump steak helping on the menu might be a little under-sized. On the other hand there are fish everywhere. In every puddle of water, there's fish. I'm sure that if I ran a bath and left it for 10mins, there'd be a cow in it. Fishing ….....

Went to survey our land (bought buy my mother and siblings decades ago) on the other side of the island. It was originally 20 acres with a beach front and road access to the front of the block. But my mother sold part of the block. Guess which part? Guess who didn't ask for an easement for access? So now we're traipsing through 500metres of tropical jungle to try to get to our block, hoping that the neighbours (whose land we're on) are friendly – the 5” spiders certainly are. Finally met a drunken local in the forest with a large machete who wanted to sell me a coconut. I tried to explain to him that as we were on my land, the coconut was probably mine anyway, but my high-school French failed me at “illegal acquisition of property for fiduciary gain”. All I knew was “Je suis un port”. He sort of laughed. Only sort of.

With the reduced weight of my wallet, the rest of the trek was a lot easier (think of the Kokoda Trail and double it). If we have this guy selling coconuts for us, maybe we could make some money off this place after all …...

Cheers,

Gordon

1st picture attached of me working on my next scientific paper on Desktop Modelling Toolkits (DMT). No rest for the wicked …... Apparently there is a psychotropic drug called DMT – the things you learn from drunks in the forest. Especially when they're waving large machetes around!

2nd picture – had the wife upgraded with some island options. Wonder how the Perth Magistrate's Court will respond to her first hearing when we get back?

3rd picture – silly little 4WD wouldn't go any further up the forest trail to our block, so had to walk the next 500m.

4th picture – our block. My mother certainly has a keen eye for real estate and a view. As they say, “Location, location, location”. I think we fail on all three requirements............
