roof rack measurements

Hi
I just picked up an ARB alloy roof rack that came off an older range rover
I want to modify it to fit my defender

I think the width will be ok but I need the height
Any idea on how high I need to make it?

As far as I remember, the leg height, i.e. distance from gutter to underside of roofrack needs to be 225mm.

mike ,s measurement is correct. 225mm from gutter to bottom of rack

According to the Dolium brochure, the Wind Cheetah roofrack for the 130 comes with 225mm legs, so I'm guessing yes, they're the same.

I have a TJM aluminium roof rack and a June 2009 Puma.
The vertical distance from the bottom of the gutter mount to the bottom of the roof rack is 250mm
The gutter mounts are 1360mm external wide.
The roof rack is 1465mm external width.
And so the legs are at an angle from the roof rack down to the gutter mounts to accomodate the different widths and the length of the legs are slightly more than 250mm.

Maybe I should have specified - 225mm is the minimum vertical distance between the gutter and the underside of the roofrack. This is the distance that most low profile roofracks use, for example, the Wind Cheetah roofrack that I mentioned. They do however, also sell the roofrack with 245mm legs, for those who want to tuck something between roof and the roofrack (apparently there are ladder mounts which clip on underneath the roofrack). I guess it comes down to what kind of setup you want.

It may also be worth considering contacting ARB and seeing if you can buy legs for your roofrack that suit the defender. I recently built a rear roofrack for my Landy, and I wanted the legs to match the front section. When I worked out cost of material, plus labour time, plus primimg and painting, it worked out cheaper to get the manufacturer of my original roofrack to ship four new legs down to me from Perth - $160 plus postage.
