:mad::mad:I'm so over this!!!!
On our way home tonight the 130 has let go of something, we stopped at a roundabout and as I went to go a loud thud sound was made and no movement.
As I've done a rear axle last time and was able to move with the front axle, all was fixed.
But this time nothing works, goes into gear so not clutch, neither drive shafts are moving so I guess something has gone wrong in the gearbox or transfer case.:mad::mad::mad:
Any thoughts before I go spending any money?:o:o
Apart from burning the damed thing.

Happened to me with a 200 Tdi at a set of traffic lights a number of ago and it was a gearbox out job and the splines had stripped on the layshaft I think. Anyway it was a replacement of the shaft. Thought that only happened on the Tdi.

Something I've wanted to ask so many times but never remember to.
More times then not when I depress the clutch and change gears it sounds like someone is under the 130 and gives it a thump.
I don't know if this is normal for the 130, or maybe this was a problem all along and now has broken whatever was going to let go.

The silly obvious one is - did the transfer case slip into neutral.
It does it with a bang.
Sorry if this is a 'telling how to suck eggs' post but often it is the obvious things.

It used to happen a lot in my old D1 and sometimes in my 101 but mainly after I had changed from hi to lo or vice versa. It sometimes does not go in properly but stays in gear while under load - once load drops off the forks move a bit and when load is applied again bang - the transfer is in neutral.
Normally happens soon after change the tfr case ratio but in my D1 did happen at a set of lights about 3 days after I had be 4wding.
The bang can be a bit frightening.

Have you tried switching the centre difflock on to see if it drives ?? A similar thing happened to me recently at a junction on a hill. Turned out to be a broken front axle so I removed front prop and drove home by rear wheel drive only, but you have to have the difflock engaged.
At the time I thought the gearbox or clutch was stuffed,thankfully it was just an axle.

:(:( Unfortunately that was not the case:(:( I wish it had been!!:(
Thinking it was the rear axle, I changed it to low gear but still did not budge.
Thats why it makes me think it has to do with gear box or trans box.
I'll have a look closer tomorrow, wasn't able to do so as we were in 5pm traffic at the time, just lucky we were able to push it off the road.
And just got it towed home for $80

I assume you mean you engaged the difflock. You still need to engage the diff lock just putting it in low gear will not help. The diff lock can be engaged in high or low.

It's actually recommended in the UK as an anti-theft measure :D More than one car thief has been caught in someone's driveway, frantically going through every gear trying to get a Defender moving, and not budging an inch... :p

:mad::mad::mad:Not again!!!
It's the rear right handside axle and drive flange again for the 3rd time!!!:mad::mad:
Still last time it happened I was able to move with the front wheels, but nothing this time so it could be more.
I did take off that cover on the gearbox and nothing amiss.

But if you locked the CDL you should have been able to drive.

Why do you tolerate this just convert to oil lube

Does this help to not break axles? Just from wear to the splines im guessing.....How much oil do you run in yours? I put about 3-3.5litres in mine today when i did it, is that enough? It just doesnt look like it will get up to the height of the axle tubes and out to the bearings

:o "oil lube":eek:
I was told to drill a hole in the oil seal, is this what I'm supposed to do?
And if so what size drill should it be and can it be done in place or remove drill and replace?

Search 'oil hub conversion' etc here. There is a whole lot of help on this subject.
As mentioned though, should still've moved in Diff lock???

the lt77's/ r380's had a bad habit of striping the spline on the mainshaft output into the transfer case.
