Hey fellas, Ive just replaced my rear axles, drive flanges and converted the bearings to oil lubed at the same time. What im after is someone who has a parts manual or similar please advise me how the rear wheel bearings (2001 sals diff) are layed out.

Is it like this......
>inner race/inner cup
>spacer
>outer cup/outer race
>lockwasher
>nut

Thats how it is on mine, from threads ive searched there seems to be 2 locknuts not just the one? The previous owner was very rough and damaged the nut, its still useable though, and the bearings that i replaced were in great condition. So it was obviously fine how it was, im just curious as to what the correct layout according to a manual is...a picture would be great!

Thanks Nayto

Hi Nayto,

The earlier ones had the two lock nuts
outer cup/outer race
Washer
nut
lockwasher
nut

The later ones have a different set up with only one nut.
I don't know the set up on these.

I don't know the change over date but my 1995 has the two lock nut system. I know of people who have changed over to the earlier system.

Thanks Tony, it had me guessing as every wheel bearing ive ever done had 2 nuts....1 to tighten the bearing, then one to lock it up.

NAyto,

Like already mentioned, just do up the main nut to at least 140Nm, and peen over the outer to lock it. Personally, I prefer the early 2 nuts and lockwasher system, where the operator sets the preload. Much more effective IMHO. You can easily convert back to this system, just turf the spacer, and buy a pair of early(Pre 1999 XA chassis number) bearing nuts and locktabs.

Ok, now you got me thinking i should buy some of the 2 nut style ones instead of just the stakenut, thanks for the headsup:)
