Question for you folk,

I am going to do a full chassis stripdown/rebuild of my 110 "Mongol" and am going to sandblast the chassis and various bits and paint it with something like POR15.

Question: I want to paint the fueltank as well and the LPG tank and was wondering if anyone has ever blasted a petrol and or LPG tank.

Also what are peoples thoughts on the Aussie version of POR15, I think its called KBS

Hmm, whatever about the LPG tank, the fuel tank walls are quite thin, and there's a good chance your local sandblaster might pebbledash them - happened to me on some similar material recently. There's also the fact that sandblasting generates quite a bit of heat on the material being abraded, and I reckon you'll find that most sandblasters will shy away from having anything to do with it. That's just my opinion though, so you may very well get lucky.

When thinking about sandblasting you should consider these points, sand/grit blasting peens/stretches thin metal, and surface hardens thicker metals which can change there tensional and torsional strength, talk to an expert about these changes to metal properties and see if blasting/peening is going to affect their strength, esp. the gas bottle, Regards Frank.
