Hi all.
Have a 81 2 door and has usual clunking when backing off the power and then back on again.
Can this be rfixed or is the makeup of the drivetrain?

Each and every component in your driveline has its own possible amount of backlash. Diffs, hubs, CV's, diff centres, driveshaft splines, uni joints, loose driveshaft bolts, transfer box, gearbox to transfer case spline. Work through the individual items one by one and replace as you can afford.

Also check / tighten / replace suspension mounts / bushes.

Check the rear A frame ball joint, it severly worn it allows the rear axle to move forward and back slightly.
I had a clunk, it was a shagged Ball Joint.
You'll notice the rear axle pivot slightly when you remove the old one. So it could be on power on it moves and on power off it moves back.

As per the others, ball joint first.
