Shopping for a new battery for the 110.
I've always had huge batteries that say monster 13 plate, 770cca. Not necessarily by choice, what they turned up with, and maybe what I bought to replace them with.
Every batter I've ever had has the terminals on the wrong side, so the positive is hidden under the edge of the seat box facing the front.
Now I really hate this. I went to Supercheap for the 20% off sale and all of the big batteries had the same terminal orientation. Somehow I walked away empty handed.
So, anyone know of a brand of battery that comes in huge and terminals the right way round? Oh, and maintenance-free, or sealed or whatever it's called would be nice, too.

ALCO MF 105D31 (check model No)
there would be 2 models (with terminals either way) - one would have an "R" suffix I think
IMHO cacium batteries such as these will outlast the std ones by a considerable factor
BTW did you sell your 130 ??

Thanks, and they're in Emu Plains.
Not sold the 130 yet.

AC Delco make a unit specifically for a Defender. They also have the same batteries and deep cycle versions available in different orientations (poles on alternate sides of batteries, screw on points etc). Best bet is to find a supplier that keeps a heap on hand so you can find what you want, rather than taking what they have got.

I just put a new Exide N70ZZLMF in my Tdi 110 and discovered they come in left and right hand terminal configurations. The N70ZZMF is the same battery but with the terminals around the wrong way for the Defender. So look for the ones with an L in the model.

What the hell do you mean "the wrong way" - surely you can just spin thebattery around 180 degrees around its vertical axis ?

As the boys above have said, all batteries are pretty much available in L and R models.
The two batteries I have stuffed under the passenger seat are identical other than being Left and Right to orient the positive terminals away from any metal.

What you say would be correct Vlad if the terminals were on the centre line of the battery but they are not L and R batteries are mirror images of each other.

Although I believe you all, I really, really do, in three Land Rovers, and at least four batteries, I'm 0 for 4 in correct terminal orientation.
I spent a long time on the phone with the local Caterpillar bloke.
Who then called a less-local Caterpillar bloke, and called back and told me very nicely that Caterpillar doesn't actually stock any batteries with the terminal in the bottom right.
No matter what the catalogue says.
I did find a very cheap dodgy bloke on ebay who said he could whip something up for me.

Bought my matching pair of L & R SuperCharge batteries at Scotts Auto One too many years ago now ;)

I might even be able to walk home from there carrying a battery.

And some people make a mountain out of a molehill.
Had a pile of cash in hand, so I nipped down to Scott's Auto One at a quarter to five.
In stock, terminals the right way round, 776cca, sealed for life, $186. Could have got it a little cheaper elsewhere, but not without driving for an hour.
Into the 110 in a couple of minutes, starts first hit, even though its been sitting idle for a couple of months.
Very satisfying.:D
