Did they drink the carton before they put up that pole, it's leaning like a drunk holding up a urinal?

The line couldn't have been far away if that was all they quoted. A mate has a block at Toogoolawah and was quoted a lot more than that over 10 years ago. His block is the first up a side road and the power line was on the main road and connected to his neighbour on that side whose block fronts the main road. Less than 200 metres from the intersection to his gate.

A few years later a cheap subdivision of 5 & 10 acre blocks was done further up his road on rubbish land, beno blocks as we called them at DSS. Council insisted that power be reticulated as a condition of approval. The authority then condescended to hook him up for considerably less. "No, thanks", said he. "I have spent money on a generator and solar system and you can put your proposal in a dark moist place unless it is free". Eventually he got the power connected for the same outlay as a city client, just pay a deposit.
