Hi , I post this question here , cause you guys have the same type of climate like us.
I have migrated back to L/R after years of driving Patrols.
In all aspects I find the D3 much better and enjoyable.
BUT, those silly sunroofs, what the hell did the British think you use it for.Only a midget will fit through it.
The sun bake the hell out of you, the flimsy sunvisors/shade dont keep the UV out and it gets far too hot. Maybe the Europeans need it for extra light or heat.
Whats also annoying is , the glare gets in behind your shades , and you see your reflection in your own shades when on the open road.

Do you guys experience the same , and what can you do the reduce the glare and sun through the sunroofs.

much like you tint the side windows to reduce glare and UV, you may find a really dark window tint on your sunroof glass will help.

I think this is one aspect of my favourite whinges! A major problem with cars in this country is that nearly all cars in the world are designed by people who live in a cold climate, or are designed by people who slavishly follow design ideas that originated in a cold climate. A good example is windscreens designed to turn the car into a hothouse.

And sun roofs are one of the worst things ever thought of in this climate. Why anyone would buy a car with one is beyond me!

I actually really like a good sunroof, but didn't opt for one on the D4 because it is so massive and just feel the glass on a hot day (I did during the test drive in summer) and it's crazy - everyone would bake.

But, compare this to some of the better sunroofs where there is a sound and heat insulated cover, and you then have decent options. eg Peugeot 308 has a full length sunroof but still a full length blockout blind. My Subaru also had a good one, and so do Hondas.

If LR had a front-only sunroof with a decent blind I would have optioned up.

I have a sunroof in my Defender and I love it. When it is hot I just open it and the vehicle cools down nicely with good air circulation. As for glare getting behind my "shades": never experienced any problems.

John, couldnt agree more, especially the D3 AND D4 sunroofs, absolutely useless.
In the Patrol , at least I could stand upright in it for photography and than close the sun completely off.
Will try and tint it before the summer arrives, the African sun is not too kind.

Personally, I find the sunroof in my RR a waste of time and just one more glass surface to be cleaned.

In the 2.5 years I’ve had the RR, I’ve used it 5 or 6 times to see how close the roof was to obstacles in undercover car parks.

Twice to give someone the BIRD after they tried on some stunt and lost.

I only tried it opened while diving a couple of times and didn’t like the sun coming in.

Hi Koos Best,
Perhaps the best solution for you would be to attach a reflective surface to the outside of the sunroof.

Alternatively, if you have a use for a roof rack, fit a solid floor in the region of the sunroof.
