just went to replace the back flexible brake line on my rangie and was wondering why for the life of me i couldnt get it to seal in the brass block on the diff...

not the best photo sorry, but best i could do with the gear i have..

sigh....nearly a mm off center...

Is that off centre as in leaning on an angle?

Don't get me wrong, but, it is supposed to seal on the end, not around the nut, so being off centre shouldn't really matter.

By the looks of the one you have, the flat are normally the metric hoses and the round are the imperial, according to the manuals. The rangie hoses I bought for the FFR actually had one flat and one rounded end. Swap them around and see what happens.

different hose mate

the chamfered sealing face is so out of round with the threaded shank that it cant possibly seal. it misses being symmetrical by about 1mm

i know the hoses you are talking about but that is not how this hose works unfortunately. this hose has a chamfer at both ends.

but wish you were right tho as i have a few in my spare parts bin...:D

I see what you mean now. at first look it seemed like the threaded body was offset to the right of the hex nut, and concentrating on the chamfer I see the difference in the shoulders of the threads< on the left and > on the right.

Bugger.

Hope you know a set of 5 braided lines from Paddocks is less than $100, guaranteed for life; they come in 2 & 4" extended versions and are a beautiful thing.

And pedal response is improved.

Quite a few years ago I got a carburetter kit for the Zenith. The new needle valve had exactly the problem you show, and was useless - could not be screwed in.

The retailer who sold me that has lost a lot of my custom as a result! They replaced it, but that is not a lot of help when you find this while the thing is apart, it is Saturday afternoon, you have to mail the offending part to them, and it takes a week at least before the new replacement arrives - and your confidence that the new replacement will be any better is not that great. And in any case you need it back on the road today!

That's a shame as it isn't the retailers fault.

People would not believe how often any service business gets faulty/broken/wrong parts or they just don't turn up or are perpetually on back order.

Just in the last three weeks, I'm still waiting for a circuit board (three weeks and counting) for a popular brand washing machine, (but at least the water pump turned up) and two weeks on a pair of circuit boards for an air conditioner (brand new, warranty job, customer not happy...)
Door seals for probably the most popular dishwasher range in the country took nearly three weeks to arrive, it's been nearly four weeks to assemble all the bits for a very popular front load washer and it's happened twice when I've opened a circuit board box there's been a second hand/faulty board inside, one was complete with a service techs appraisal of the fault !
The funny thing is I can get most all commercial/industrial refrigeration bits overnight. Just the difference in stock levels held and most nearly all the time things are correct and as ordered.

Only on Friday the local tyre service/quad mechanic opened a box for a Honda quad to find a choke cable when he ordered a brake cable....
This is almost a daily occurrence for Don and I (most of the district get all our deliveries dropped at his shop)
We have on average twice weekly grizzle sessions on how many wrong/broken/incomplete orders we receive.

a while back i stripped compressor down to address a few issues that had cropped up in the first WEEK of operation

the grade 8 marked head bolts were all of the flanged head type, and NONE of them had heads that were in line with the shank of the bolt
several fittings were loose
the cover on the pressure switch wasnt screwed on

and to think this one was a warranty replacement for one that on the first run i discovered it had a pinhole in the weld for the compressor tank...... it got its plug chopped off before it was even started!

Isn't it interesting what large companies are thinking, 20 years ago quality was the big buzz word at the time and bucket loads of money was spent to improve quality standards and the quality of products.
Now it seems they think by using unskilled casual/contract labour they can save a quid and make more profit. When a customer is given a faulty or incorrect part they just replace it for another (maybe faulty) part.
