RR Sunraysias on a Series III

Due to our new tyre, new when the Series 3 was purchased in 1982 and kept as a spare ever since, forming cracks in the rubber, we put our RR Sunraysia rims and tyres [31 inch by 10.5 R15] on the Series III lowering it by around 2 inches over our 7.50 X16's that were on it. However had a vibration this morning, and found wheel nuts loose on one of them and had done in studs, and lost two wheel nuts. So have ordered new studs.

Only have four Sunraysias [one now slightly damaged in bolt holes from rubbing on studs] and normal RR rims wont fit, so am chasing two 15X7 Sunraysia rims. Will advertise in Tyres/Wheels wanted.

Question:-- I know this will change speedo, by how much will the speedo change.

Other than ground clearance are there other issues with this swap.

John, are the sunnies locating properly on the hubs? I think RR have smaller hubs than a Series, this would explain the stud failure.

I have 15x8 sunnies on mine off a series 1 disco . never had any trouble....

I put a SWB speedo in mine to overcome the speedo differance as the SWB only has 6.00 tyres. works a treat..

The only way to check if you have a SWB speedo is you need to look at the small numbers on the bottom of the speedo near the bottom 3 lights ..

I have the numbers hear somewhere for the 2 if you want them i will have to have a look..

There are different offsets between RRc Vs LR Series Sunraysia style rims. It is mainly an issue with the reduction in turning circle with the +ve offset RRc rims when fitted to a Series LR.

SIII wheel nuts had a habbit of coming off with the standard rims, that is why there was a change in later SIII rims with the raised ring through the PCD.

There are 2 hub sizes in the RRc the early ones have a chamfer on the hub that brings it essentially the same as the Series hub. This is also why late RRc and Disco 1 alloy rims wont fit on early RRc.

In regard to the speedo, you may find that changing to a SIII 88" speedo corrects the error, you may have to consider an overdrive to reduce the engine revs a little.

It is an Isuzu deisel, and it does not appear to over-rev.

Going from standard height tyres to 31's will result in your speedo over-reading by approximately 4% (plus the original error you already had in your speedo). I have 31's on my County and coupled with the original error in the speedo means that it over-reads by at least 10%. I've never had a speeding ticket!.
