I have just purchased a disco 2 td5 2003 that has a rather annoying feature that i though was just bad design but reading the manual, may be a fault. If you open any of the doors the interior light comes on as expected but then turn off after about 15 sec while the door is still open. Opening any other door will not bring them on either. You have to shut all doors then open one again and the cycle repeats. With the door open you can trigger the locks open with the button on the key and get another 15 sec. Makes getting the kids in their car seats at night a major pain. I have taken to turning them on manually but then usually forget to turn them off until i am buckled in myself. Any ideas? Looking at the wiring diagram i cannot see what would cause this fault. All the door switches are working or the lights would not turn on at all (or go off). Bad BCU? Everything else works fine.

I can't remember the exact timing details, but this sounds like transit mode is set. There is a procedure to get the vehicle out of transit mode but that's something else that I can't exactly recall. Its documented in the LR workshop manual (on RAVE) IIRC.

You can get the Disco out of transit mode by simultaneously holding down the rear window demist and the rear fog light switches and turning the ignition switch from position 0 to position III for 2 seconds.

shear genius-
I had the bcu out and the multimeter cranked up. No mention of Transit mode on the haynes manual and i jumped straight into the wiring diagrams on rave rather than reading the manual. Anyway, all fixed.
Thanks a lot. :) I wonder if it had been like that from the factory? Unfortunately the previous owner has gone overseas.

My 2nd D2 was delivered still in transit mode. It was easily cleared when I woke-up to the fact .
