I have a D4 Discovery that locks on the caravan brakes when the headlights are turned on. I am going to go through the installation of the electric brake cotroller (Hayan Resse Guardian) and double check everything. In my mind however I can't see what relationship the vehicles lights should have to the electric brakes.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Kind regards, Craig

maybe the fault lies at the trailer plug end or the brakes do not come on when the park lights are on and no headlights??

The photo's are better on page 4-5.
The reason is because the loom is made up of 2 park light circuits & whoever has wired the variable voltage feed to pin no.5 has failed to notice this.
Hence when the lights are turned on the trailer brakes operate.

yep, my L322 Rangie was the same... Parkers on pins 7 & 5 and I'm sure it was Rear Fog on pin 2. Why the Dealers are delivering these vehicles with wiring not to (Aus) standard is beyond me.

Harlie, when the vehicle is not touched & no trailer brakes are fitted it is fine & conforms to Australian imports for a foreign vehicle.
As the wiring to the vehicle operate the things that are required.
R-turn 1
L-turn 4
Parkers 6
Earth 3
& Stop 7
The only 2 others that we use as an Aux if req are pins 2 (rev/fog) & 5 Aux/trailer brake feed.
If you didnt fit trailer brakes no-one would ever notice:eek:

Thanks guys had exactly the same problem with a new D4. Is there a solution for LED lights on the trailers - I have been told that I need an adaptor fitted between the vehicle and the trailer.

D4Scorpio,
Yes you will need to purchase an adaptor.
Email Dave at the bottom of the page & he will get back to you, I know he is on holidays this week, but is still keeping in touch.

Hi all,
I had the same problem btw but have moved on now despite following the link attached (thanks sniegy) however now have a few new issues :(
On my camper with LED's the left indicator does not function even though my box trailer does - worked fine a week ago on another car :(
As for trailer brakes my Redarc remote head unit glows green as soon as the trailer connector is connected which is good and it no longer stays on constantly....however when I apply the brakes now it only briefly glows red instead of staying red whilst the brakes are applied :( :(
Any suggestions??
Cheers Phil

Hi all,
Can I ask another question regarding my scenario for fitting trailer brake controller to A frame on trailer.
To stop the trailer brakes engaging when I switch my headlights on in my D3 all that is required is the termination of brown wire in the wiring loom behind the rear tail light. (as per sniegys great tutorial link)
Getting more confused by the minute:)
