Guys, Ive got a P38 oil cooler fitted to my 2003 Disco TD5. The oil temp switch on the cooler is not working. The replacement part no. is either ESR 4329 (diesel) or ESR 4330 (petrol). Im trying to work out which switch to buy, but dont know what the technical differences are in the part. Not knowing anything about the P38 i have some simple questions to ask of you guys.

Do both the petrol and diesel variants use the ZF 4HP22? or does the petrol use the 4HP24?

My assumption is that they might operate at different temperatures?

I believe that both use the hp22 and the difference in the switch is to do with a difference in location/fitting/connection of the temp switch.

auto fluid boils at the same temp regardless if its pump is being driven by a diesel or a petrol engine.

Try giving Roger , DISCO W.A a PM. I know he was going to fit one of these coolers on his disco so might be able to help

ZF4HP24 was fitted to the 4.6L Petrol.

ZF4HP22 was fitted to the 4.0L Petrol and 2.5L BMW Diesel.

On the 99+ Petrol models, the temp sensor is on the LHS of the cooler. No idea where it is on earlier models or diesels though.

Cheers, Paul.
